There was some news that the cast of Les Miserables were going to perform at the Oscars but so far, at least in my news streams, I never got a confirmation on that. But now it is being reported that Adele will be there to perform Skyfall.
The AMPAS will be paying tribute to the 50th anniversary of Bond. Many believed that meant Skyfall would have been the first film nominated for Best Picture. It probably would have if the Oscars had stuck with an even ten. But since they have a system of each member only choosing five it was less likely, since not that many people who have put Skyfall at number one.
“It’s an honor to be nominated and terrifyingly wonderful to be singing in front of people who have captured my imagination over and over again,” Adele said after nominations were announced. “It’s something I’ve never experienced and probably only ever will once!”
The Oscars will unfurl, amid much fanfare, on Sunday, February 24, 2013.
“Skyfall” was one of my very favorite films of the year. So freshly directed by Sam Mendes (an unsung director in my opinion this year)!
I was really hoping Javier Bardem and Judi Dench would have been nominated in the BSA categories for this movie.
Adele singing at the Oscars! It will certainly engender more viewership with her singing on the program. I hope she wins.
I’m routing for Roger Deakins. I had thought he was a shoo-in for his nomination for “True Grit”, and then along came Wally Pfister out of nowhere with “Inception” to steal his Best Cinematography Oscar. I had thought it was Deakins for the win that year most certainly (Deakins won just about every other major prize for cinematography that year EXCEPT the Oscar).
So, this year I hesitate to predict anything “with certainty”. I hope he wins for Skyfall. The cinematography elevated this film from an action flick to a work of art – deep focus, great coloring, and wide, expansive shots of beautiful locales.
I know”Life of Pi” is the film most people are predicting for Best Cinematography this year. Personally, I think it is largely because it is a 3D picture and that the visual effects rather help the cinematographer in this film to ahieve the look of the film.
I think Deakins had a harder job, and pulled it off successfully by bringing much more visually to the Bond story than past films.
If I were voting, my vote would go to Roger Deakins, Best Cinematography, for “Skyfall”.
It’s too bad that Skyfall couldn’t receive even a token Best Pic nomination to round out ten nominees. This is so lame. I’m sure Adele singing there will be phenomenal. I just wish she kept her auburn hair… the blond is fake and screams ‘I’m a hollywood diva like like Gwen, Gaga, and Madonna’. Boring!
gah she’ll still the show 4 sure!
& agree with ppl re: Pi VFX
I adored by cinematography – Deakins all the way!
@Zach M.:
The stuff you’re saying about “Pi” applies to “Avatar” too – and it won the Cinematography Oscar back in 2010. I really want “Skyfall” to take it this year, but “Pi” is giving it some very stiff competition from the way I look at it.
And she will probably steal the whole show
And she will pr
Life of Pi was a visually gorgeous film, that much is true. But I feel like a lot of that was supplemented by visual effects more than anything, and for that, Life of Pi is probably a more deserving VFX winner.
In terms of sheer, raw cinematographic ability, though, Skyfall is the clear winner, IMO.
“Bitch please Tree of Life has Cinematography down.”

No, alas. I thought it’d win, sure, but it wasn’t quite as secure as Life of Pi is this year. The difference in popularity of those two films is considerable.
Of course they will have her sing. She is running away with the best song prize might as well get a free mini Adele concert out of it. Put that in your envy pipe Taylor Swift and smoke it. 😀
Thank heavens the Academy changed their ways when they would only have American performers sing the nominated songs. I remember when Paul McCartney and Wings were nominated for “Live and Let Die” and they were not allowed to sing it because they were British. Who did they get? Connie Stevens!!!! I shudder to think who might have ripped apart Skyfall!
So is this for the Bond tribute segment or for the Best Original Song segment? If for the original song segment, can we expect to see ScarJo perform as well?
“Wouldnt it be great if you could get all the Bond theme songs in order on one album?”
Ditto. XD
Japanese viewer: oh come on. That song isnt even in Duran Duran’s top 10.
Its all about Nobody Does It Better and Live and Let Die. Roger Moore may have been a lousy 007 but as a song inspirer he’s 001.

Adele better leave room in her luggage. She’s coming home with The Man With the Golden Sheen.
(Sasha says) “I think Life of Pi or Lincoln will take it. But what do I know.”
A great deal of intelligence re films, Sasha.
A View to a Kill, performed by Duran Duran, number 1 for two weeks on U.S. Billboard, is my favorite O.S. to Bond film. I am in my prime but as far as today’s mainstream pop music (in English) including Adele’s Skyfall, somehow I consider myself too old for it; my grandfather and one of my uncles, both of who had passed, loved The Beatles, and for some reason, recently besides American classic rock in 70s, 80s (and 90s) I’ve been listening to the Beatles (UK-released versions) a lot.
To suspend the reality that anyone could happen to be a secret agent, my favorite Bonds are Moore and Brosnan (too young for Connery and Lazenby; Dalton, thanks to two movies in particular in the wake of his Bond films, The B***tician and the Beast, and [I think] M*** Men, helped ruin those fond mems I once had for his Bond character so now he’s not part of it; but I am not a hater). Just saying.
Side note: Life of Pi’s cinematography is magnificent.
This site really needs an “edit” button 🙂
Ha. In this year of “third time winners” I totally forgot that Janusz Kaminski might also swipe the third one this one arround. Holy shit, what a night it would be if Spielberg, Boal, Day-Lewis, Fields, De Niro, Kaminski, Ottosson or Hallberg and Judkins or Rudloff win. A regular tri-win fiesta. Let’s just hope Greg P. Russell wins. 16 noms and no Oscar. He’s on the right track to become Kevin O’Connel who roght now doesn’t even get nominated.
Oh, shit, I forgot about Life of Pi. Don’t I feel like an ass right now.
In recent years Cinematography has a tendency to go in pair with Visual Effects, so I’m sticking with Pi in both categories.

As William Goldman once said, “Nobody knows anything.”
Agree. If there is a career win this year, it will be Deakins. I don’t like the fact that it may happen because it’s does a disservice to both Deakins (Skyfall is not his best work) and the film that should win (Pi). But it’s only the Oscars – by Feb 25th, it won’t mean much.
Skyfall is probably one of the weakest Bond themes, ever, but star-power and radio play win the day, which hasn’t really happened since Eminem, who, btw, DID write the best song of that year.
Bitch please Life of Pi has Cinematography down.
I like Deakin’s chances this year. Unless Lincoln sweeps I think he’ll win.

Would have been more likely w/a BP nod. But not out of the question. I think Life of Pi or Lincoln will take it. But what do I know.
The Academy has the unique opportunity to finally honor two men, who should have gotten the Oscar a long time ago. However I don’t see either Newman or Deakins winning this year. It’s a bit sad actually, because IMHO their nominations have this kind of “happy-be-here” vibe, and their work on “Skyfall” certainly is not their best. So it’s just another nod in the CV for both gentlemen. Even if by some chance Deakins wins (I don’t think Newman has a shot) it will have a kind of bitter taste. “Skyfall” for me does not have this masterful spark like “Kundun”, “O Brother, where art thou?” or “Jesse James”. It’s perfectly shot allright, but also missing some impalpable element and just doesn’t fly like a deakins’ movie should.
Is it just me, or is Best Song more interesting than Best Supporting Actor this year? (and that’s something I never thought I’d say in a million years)
She will become the second original perfeormer of a Bond Theme song o sing at the Oscars Ceremony. This is gonna be a great show!
