“We had just watched the movie ‘Lincoln’ in the White House theatre with the director, screenwriter and many of the actors attending. Later, the President invited Daniel Day-Lewis upstairs to see the Lincoln Bedroom in the private residence. Here is Day-Lewis, who had just come to life as Abraham Lincoln, viewing the Gettysburg Address.” (Official White House Photo by Pete Souza)
Full-size after the cut.
I like the hair – at least from this angle. It gives him a cleft nape (as opposed to a cleft chin).
Beatiful photo. I love how DDL seemed to ‘fall in love’ with Lincoln. The role needed someone who was going to feel deeply about it and DDL’s performance wasn’t simply uncanny – it was soulful. It was a gift. It’s poignant that it took an Irish/Englishman to give the greatest American iconic figure life, depth and heart. DDL truly seemed inspired by this opportunity.
I hope he didn’t get weird and try to live there.
I can’t imagine what was going through his head looking at that stuff, after the intense effort to get inside the man’s head and “become” him. Wonder how long he got to look around.
The President seemed to like it immediately after seeing it but when asked again, he chose Argo and Beasts as his favorite films of the year.
Horrible haircut.
BRILLIANT
I’ve been waiting to see an image of the screening at the White House so for long, this is good enough…
What a great picture! Thanks, Ryan.
magnificent image
Great photo. Watch for Dreamworks to start rolling out all the photos from the White House screening of “Lincoln” any day now. If they had a snap of a misty-eyed Obama watching it, that just might seal it. 😉
What a beautiful photograph — and what a moving moment fir Day-Lewis. If he were to be denied the Oscar, it would be the greatest Oscar travesty since “Brokeback Mountain.”
Just give him the Oscar now. His performance as Lincoln is nothing short of a miracle. He deserves to make history.
He really wants that third Oscar 🙂
OMG! He looks cool or what:))) I love the haircut and the glasses (as much as I can see). He just fits there!
