@John:
Point taken.
I think I am still fuming about its AMPAS nomination in Sound Effects Editing.
Dialogue editing nomination from this group. Yeah. I can understand that.
But an AMPAS nomination for Best Sound? Just look at the other four nomonees. Nah. I’m not buying it.
At any rate, “Skyfall” for the win! (Any win!) What a great movie.
@Keifer–Yes, I would definitely say LINCOLN, a movie that’s all about political negotiation… thus, words, should be nominated in a dialogue-basewd Sound Category.
I know it flopped, but one would think Dredd would be an obvious nominee here.
So AMOUR had better Sound Effects Editing than THE RAID:REDEMPTION? HUH?????
Love the love for “Skyfall”. I hope this helps to set it up for an Oscar win in its respective categories.
Also nice to see “Prometheus” and “The Dark Knight Rises” get noticed.
But “Lincoln”? Reallly? ? ? ? Best SOUND? Jesus! Can anybody really tell me with a straight face that it deserves recognition in this category? It makes me mad when they just throw away a slot to another Spielberg band-wagon nomination from a guild that usually gets it right. Yawn.
I was surprised The Hobbit was ignored in the sound categories at the Oscars. I’m no expert, and I continually confuse the sound categories, but I often predict correctly based on what seems to be the most technical film of the year. That sentiment led me to correctly predict Pi and Skyfall in both categories, Les Mis in sound mixing, and Django in sound editing. But I had Hobbit in both sound categories and ZDT in sound mixing rather than editing.
Thanks, Paddy.
I guess it’s Editing that I’m thinking of.
TY Ryan! 🙂
Steve, only three films have won both Best Picture and Sound Editing Oscars since they first introduced the award, in the 1960s – Braveheart, Titanic and The Hurt Locker.
No film has hit all of the guilds.
Good for Skyfall, Hobbit, Argo and Pi.
So where does that leave us with guild tallies? I don’t think any film has them all – or do they?
Isn’t it the Sound Editing oscar that usually goes with BP?
Ryan, you say the last guild to weigh in, but has the Art Directors’ Guild announced their choices? I didn’t see that posted.
rAr, the Art Directors Guild were fast out of the gate right after New Years Day. Here ya go.
Argo, Skyfall, Life of Pi….Skyfall for the win, Argo a possible surprise winner at the Oscars
I am going to go out on a big big limb here. One that’s earth shattering in fact. I will predict that a film called LES MISERABLES will win ‘Best Sound Editing: Music in a Musical Feature Film.’
No Zero Dark Thirty anywhere…interesting.
