The Critics Choice awards are going to be this Thursday night, the same day as Oscar nominations. We have a contest for you to enter your predictions. You can also do that over at Gold Derby. Since they’re coming out after Oscar ballots have been turned in, and occurring on the same day as the Oscar nominations, what Oscar voters do will no effect on what the BFCA do. For instance, they could award Tom Hooper Best Director and Tom Hooper might not even get an Oscar nomination. That sort of thing. 2012 is just that kind of year. Someone toppled the house of cards and we have no idea where anything is going to land.
But you can enter our contest if you’d like. Here are my rough predictions – but I must stipulate, figuring out what the BFCA is going to do is near impossible.
Here is a complete list of our nominees:

Hoping Ann dowd wins here for compliance. Her reviews were solid
I think that Judi Dench deserves a nod at the Oscars for Skyfall!
Maybe I am taking the Critic’s Choice awards title too literally but I am predicting Riva to win Best Actress. JLaw will have action and comedy trophies to keep her happy.
Archie, the awards will be live on The See-Dub-Ya Thursday at 8PM ET.
I hope there is a similar thread for the People’s Choice Awards this Wednesday night, 12 hours before the Oscar nominees are announced.
Are they going to televise BFCA on VH1? Does anybody know where and what time?
I also need to add that I have almost no respect for the BFCA–even if some of my favorite awards bloggers are voters–because the BFCA, as a whole, likes to think of itself as an Oscar bellwether rather than an organization with its own voice.
Other than director, and even then, I don’t see it happening, I don’t see Zero Dark Thirty winning anything. I think the controversy has gotten too large and too loud for voters to comfortably get behind the film–even if they love it. That said I think it’ll be a Lincoln sweep with Silver Linings making a run for Best Actress.
Not only does this critics group compromise their choices to mirror AMPAS’, they now added all these redundant categories in an obvious attempt to draw more big stars to their show.
Okay I’ll play. Although it’s probably best to try to predict them trying to predict the Oscars, I’m just going to pick fun ones.

I chose Chastain over Lawrence – not for a personal reason, since I haven’t seen ZD30 (but I will probably see it after all). Anyway! But I picked for Best Action Actress and Best Comedy Actress. So, let’s see how it’s going.
And as for me and as it is now I would really be delighted if Jennifer Lawrence won an Oscar for her role in SLP. In contrast to a lot of others here I found her to be great. I my mind, she pretty much nailed it.
If ‘Moonrise’ wins for its score, I will know that I’ve died and gone to Hell.
No mater if the predicted or the alternative wins, William Goldenberg gets the award for Editing 😀
JLaw could win four awards here. Should that happen, she may become unbeatable in the Oscar race.
I think predicting the BFCA isn’t that hard. First, they try to match what they expect the Academy to do. Then, one ought to consider the fact that their membership aren’t particularly well-versed in the specifics of many of the technical categories, so expect popular films to triumph there. Finally, if the critical consensus has swung strongly in one direction thus far in the season, they normally match that.
Damn, I wish Anne Hathaway would also win for “BEST ACTRESS IN AN ACTION MOVIE.” She played Selina Kyle, so well. The level of intensity, the way she plays the “female crying card” when being attacked and getting away with it.
Waw! Jennifer Lawrence best actress, best action actress and best comedy actress? Did that happen before??? Can it happen this time??
So everyone’s convinced JLaw is sweeping the big ones?
