Got this from Anne Thompson’s site — check it out. Yes, that Bob Dylan singing in the background.
Ah, the Coen brothers – like a cleansing shower.

Sasha Stone has been around the Oscar scene since 1999. Almost everything on this website is her fault.

I go hot and cold on the Coen Brothers but I can’t wait to see this. I saw Oscar Isaacs in Romeo and Juliet and Two Gentlemen of Verona in Central Park and he was amazing. And this looks like a really good part for Carey Mulligan. Makes me want to rewatch Next Stop, Greenwich Village.
@Paddy
Thanks for the correction.
@ Sean
Burn After Reading was shot by Emmanuel Lubezki. If you can’t have your first choice, Lubezki and Bruno Delbonnel are fucking good replacements.
So up for this. Carey Mulligan FTW.
looks boring.
I’m in. Oscar Isaacs and Carey Mulligan looking very fine here. Oscar potentials I hope.
All the acting here looks fantastic. Especially Carry Mulligan who seems to be getting all the funniest and WTF scenes. Also love that John Goodman is back with the Coens, they always write the best characters for him. Seems like one of the calmest movies the Coen brothers have ever made. Should be an interesting change of pace for them.
It looks wonderful. What a nice, refreshing trailer. It has such a sad, but hopeful feel to it.
I don’t know. I’d like to here some music, the use of Bob Dylan here is so expected, but I guess maybe they wanted to pick someone the viewers knew couldn’t have been this guy.
You can never tell how good a movie is going to be from a trailer, but this one doesn’t disappoint me in any significant way.
I started reading the script last summer and had to stop myself about 20 pages in cause I liked what I was reading so much. I didn’t want to spoil anymore of it for myself. I can’t wait for this.
I’ve tended to go back-and-forth on the Coen brothers lately (loved NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN and A SERIOUS MAN but found BURN AFTER READING and TRUE GRIT disappointing), but this comes after one of the disappointing ones, and I’m certainly interested in the subject matter (as well as being glad John Goodman is back with them), so I’m intrigued. Didn’t recognize Carey Mulligan at all; she looks good in it. Also didn’t recognize Oscar Isaac at first, and I think he has the potential to do good things with the role. Didn’t know this was their first movie since MILLER’S CROSSING that’s without Deakins.
James – Elswit was no doubt worthy for TWBB but don’t forget Deakins ran up against himself too with another beautifully shot film: NCFOM
So it looks like John Goodman will be starring in a BP nominee again next Oscars. He’s such good luck lately (especially if Argo upsets and he finds himself in the winning picture two years in a row).
The Coens. Along with Fincher, my favorite working directors these days.
I’d would say that Deakins has it in the bag, but that could be one of the few awards that goes to Life of Pi. I think it would be a good consolation prize for Deakins though. His work in True Grit was quite good and many thought he would get his overdue award, but this would be more worthy.
How he didn’t win for The Man Who Wasn’t There, I will never know. I would say Jesse James, but There Will Be Blood was a worthy winner.
Always nice to see F. Murray
Wow this looks so good
IMDb spec page says Delbonnel shot it with Arricam LT 35mm.
But I’m sure if the Coens wanted Deakins to stick to film he would have done so for them. More likely a scheduling conflict.
Unless Deakins is beginning to think the Coens have been jinxing his Oscar chances for 20 years.
Savvy filmmakers understand that the Academy likes for its pathetic Oscar history to look as ridiculously disconnected as possible.
Yeah, the shading was so noticeably different I hit the IMDb page right away for an explanation. I guess this was shot when Deakins was doing SKYFALL. Very nice look.
This shot on film or digital? Just wondering if the Coens are sticklers for film cause their usual dp Deakins seems to want to shoot on digital from here on out.
God yess!!!
Please take my money.
Top 5, Maybe one of Top 3 Most expected of 2013
“Not what I expect from these guys at all”–LOL yeah sure, you punk-ass poser…like you would be the one who has them pinned down.
Gorgeous as always Garrett Hedlund, definition of sex: Justin Timberlake.
I tend to get bored by most actresses movie after movie but not by Mulligan.
oooh, wow. what looks so different? Bruno Delbonnel, that’s what.
yes please!
And here I was just about to post this in my need to cleans my SLP hate. Good thing the Academy likes the Coens, but nevermind that. This looks great.
Hmmm… I love the Coens, so I’m surprised to find myself underwhelmed by the writing on display here. I know that “the reason you suck” speeches are a widespread trope, but the one on display here is an almost verbatim recurrence of the “it’s because you’re an asshole” speech from THE SOCIAL NETWORK. That and the corny jokes from Goodman, and the ol’ stuck-with-an-animal-that’s-not-really-mine bit… this all feels kinda hackneyed. Not what I expect from these guys at all. The acting looks great though.
