(Press release): LOS ANGELES – February 19, 2013 – CBS Films announced today it has acquired US rights to INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS. Written and directed by Academy Award©-winners Joel and Ethan Coen and produced by Scott Rudin and Joel and Ethan Coen, the film stars Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, John Goodman, Garrett Hedlund, F. Murray Abraham and Justin Timberlake.
INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS follows an aspiring singer-songwriter (Isaac) as he navigates the 1960s folk-music scene in New York City’s Greenwich Village. Grammy®-winner T Bone Burnett produced the film’s soundtrack which includes music performed by, among others, Oscar Isaac, Marcus Mumford and Justin Timberlake. Robert Graf served as executive producer, T Bone Burnett served as executive music producer and Marcus Mumford as associate music producer.
Previous collaborations between the Coen Brothers and Rudin include the Academy Award©-winning Best Picture of 2007 No Country For Old Men and the multiple-Academy Award©-nominated True Grit.
Studio Canal is handling international distribution for the film as well as foreign sales. UTA negotiated on behalf of the filmmakers.
Based solely on the trailer I’ve seen, Carey looks like a possibility for a Supporting nod
It’s the Coens, so it could at least get nominated for Best Picture.
David Lindsey – Heck, the John Goodman BP thing could become a real story too! But let’s not forget that Goodman is also in Clooney’s The Monuments Men, and Sony is handling that. I think there will definitely be coverage about that if either film is nominated because I don’t believe anyone has acted in 3 straight Best Picture winners.
Keep in mind this is a Scott Rudin production, so as long as CBS puts up some money for a campaign (and provided this isn’t farcical Burn After Reading-style Coens, of course), it will certainly have a legitimate shot at the big one.
I add to the concern about CBS Films. I’m really rooting for this film and would have much rather seen it get picked up by Fox Searchlight, Sony Pictures Classics or Lionsgate/Roadside attractions or even a smaller, but still plucky company like Sundance Selects or IFC. It seems stunning that the Coen Bros. can’t find better distribution.
This film will win Best Picture next year. It has to! It stars John Goodman, who of course will NOT be nominated.
I always feel as If CBS films is losing money on every film they release (Beastly, The Words and Seven Psychopaths at the time all disapointed at the box office and Gambit seems to be erased from existance since the trailer released a couple of months ago)… I can’t imagine a studio like that having the money for an expensive awards-campaign… But i could ne wrong….
After his star turn in Drive, I’d crawl though glass to see Oscar Isaac in a lead role. There isn’t a better match for him than the Coens, either.
I thought you were kidding about My Fair Lady, so I looked it up. I knew all that makeup for Nanny McFee would eventually affect Emma’s mind. Can they be serious?
Does this mean Inside Llewyn Davis isn’t a player? CBS Films doesn’t look like an Oscar player.
CBS Films is a comer
This year they’re behind Salmon Fishing in the Yemen (nominated for 3 Golden Globes) and Seven Psychopaths (which should have nominated for Best Screenplay and pushed Tarantino out).
Next year CBS Films has John Madden’s My Fair Lady with Carey Mulligan.
this is good news. glad to see Issac in a lead role. he was wonderful as Joseph in THE NATIVITY STORY and his small part in DRIVE.
