NOBODY was better at Bond themes. For Adele’s sake, I hope they don’t play Bassey within 1/2 hr either side of her performance.

My expectation is that this may be a part of a specific Bond tribute section on the night, with this and all six Bonds and maybe some other theme song performers and Adele perhaps at the start or the end.

OMG, love Shirley. Is she still singing & swinging? She’s about 70, right?

No no, we only changed the singer from Carly Simon to Bassey. The rest of the script still holds (for those who remember it) ;)

Yeah, I hope this doesn’t overshadow Adele. I mean, no one can overshadow Adele, but Goldfinger can certainly overshadow Skyfall.

If it helps them justify giving the Bond franchise an Oscar, then go for it.

    Love Shirley Bassey!

This is the best Oscar news I’ve heard yet.

First Adele. Then Barbra. Now Shirley.

How can you NOT tune it to watch this show?

“First Adele. Then Barbra. Now Shirley.”

No dance number needed. It’s already becoming the gayest Oscars in my lifetime.

Was Shirley Bassey big in America? Outside Bond, that is? And outside of Gay men, that is?

In one of my past comments about O.S. to Bonds films and movies, I made clear that I like best A View to a Kill by Duran Duran. However, Diamonds Are Forever is a timeless classic when it comes to Bonds films, as its symbol (to me), with all of its traditional big-band feelings, etc. Looking forward to it. [Anyhoo, guess they don’t fancy much of Duran Duran methinks. xD]

    SAME!

Get Duran Duran too. “View to a Kill” is still one of the best Bond songs. I would also say Paul McCartney would be nice too.

We should all be on the “AMPAS JAMES BOND TRIBUTE COMMITTEE”. Maybe Carly Simon and Paul McCartney would be “surprise” singers on the program after all.

It would be so great to hear the original singers of Bond movie songs all do their thing on stage at the Oscars, wouldn’t it?

“Was Shirley Bassey big in America? Outside Bond, that is? And outside of Gay men, that is?”

Adam – you don’t have to go any further outside to be big. You’re there.

Paddy – I was thinking that, too – all six Bonds walking out together. Would cranky Connery agree to that, though?

Bassey is 76, so I don’t expect her to be belting out “goold – fing – guhhh!” I looked it up because of the posts here. I thought she was dead. Must’ve been confusing her with Rex Reed.

Shirley’s still singing, and you bet your ass she’s still doing Goldfinger.

Really, Dion? If she sings it, that will make my night!

Love Adele, but Shirley is the classic bond singer. I predict she steals the nights show

She still has it, for sure! She sung DAF at the Queen Diamond Jubilee last year and I found a Goldfinger performance from 2011, check it out:

This is going to be awesome!

“I thought she was dead. Must’ve been confusing her with Rex Reed.”

Ha…. Kudostorm. xD Considering Rex Reed’s name’s just popped up here on AD a couple of days ago and not in a good light either, this joke, focused upon Reed only, is doubtless perfect in its timing.

“It would be so great to hear the original singers of Bond movie songs all do their thing on stage at the Oscars, wouldn’t it?”

Sold. (If that means Duran Duran’s original members are all included.) Side note: My wet dreams being, JLaw, wearing her SLP character Tiffany, to go up on stage in Tiffany mode *as SLP’s Tiffany*, dancing madly and wildly with Duran Duran while the band is performing A View to a Kill live.

Thank you Julia for the link. Love her attitude and her overall performance.
