Fox Searchlight reportedly paid $10 million for the rights to The Way Way Back at Sundance in February. Directed by Nat Faxon and Jim Rash — who won an Oscar for their screenplay for The Descendents.

Over the course of his summer break, a teenager comes into his own thanks in part to the friendship he strikes up with one of the park’s managers.

In theaters July 5th, a rather busy box-office weekend. Watch the trailer after the cut.

  1. Isn’t he in One Direction?

  2. Correct me if I am wrong, but on the main pic I am quite sure that brunette lady is the beautiful Amanda PEET opposite the Australian talent Toni Collete…. I’ve just checked HER Wiki *in English* to make sure I am right or not wrong and I couldn’t find this film’s title in her filmography (yet?). Is this some sort of a cameo role for her? I mean if you’re not paying attention, you could possibly miss her on the featured clip here…. My point, Mr. and Ms. Producers, please make sure you know how to utilize talent when spotted – she deserves better than virtually just another background artist…. (At 2:28, the end of this clip, her name was not even on the list.)

Ranting aside, if Sam Rockwell, as well as Toni Collette, is good as they used to be in general, and […] script is equally fine, then this could be a hit that pays for Fox methinks….

  3. Yup, it looks like a more upbeat version of the Descendants. Could crack the Oscar BP Ten if it isn’t a busy year and the movie’s any good. Seems to have that mix of gravitas and “crowdpleaser” that may actually make it quite potent if it IS any good….
