Thanks once again to ONTD.
From USA Today:
“They keep pulling me back in,” Pfeiffer says of her role in the Luc Besson-directed film The Family (out Sept. 20). “There’s something about that world that fascinates me.”
She’s in very good company. Pfeiffer plays a longtime mob wife alongside Robert De Niro, the actor who has played mobsters in everything fromThe Godfather: Part II to Goodfellas and Analyze This.
Besson compared notes with Tonino Benacquista, who wrote the novel Malavita from which the screenplay is taken, before casting the movie.
“Tonino said it would be so perfect if Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer played the roles,” says Besson. “It was like a dream.”
Besson say the script was an offer even De Niro couldn’t refuse, and the pair quickly jumped into the black comedy. Pfeiffer was especially excited since she has never worked alongside De Niro, even though they have been in different scenes from two recent movies, 2007’s Stardustand 2011’sNew Year’s Eve.
“This was a third opportunity to do a film with him and to actually act with him,” says Pfeiffer. “I didn’t want to pass that up. And in this, he’s terrifying and very funny at the same time.”
I aboslutely love the novel and I really hope the movie does well in theaters so that the sequel (MALAVITA AGAIN) can get made!
I was expecting something completely different. From the looks of this trailer, this wont be that great. And i like the name Malavita better than The Family.
Has the Ain’t Them Bodies Saint trailer been posted yet??

I think it will be interesting to see how these three megastars perform together. I don’t think they’ve worked together previously, and the DeNiro-Pfeiffer pairing is inspired casting.
The movie looks entertaining. Surely. Awards worthy? Perhaps some Golden Globe comedy nominations will be in order – that may be it, though. The dramatic actresses/actors outlined in previous blogs for later this year look crowded as it is. Comedy performances always suffer come Oscar nomination time (unfortunately). Case in point: I know I’m in the minority, but I feel Streep should have received the Oscar (or at least a nomination) for her comedic work in 1989’s “She-Devil”. And Pfeiffer should have been nominated for her comedic work in “Married to the Mob”. That is one of my favorite Pfeiffer performances.
That is some shit poster.
Yes PFEIFFER!!! Hopefully this is a good role for her in which her talent for black comedy gets to shine again. Pleeeeease let her be in good hands with Luc Besson. Can’t see it being an award-calibre performance for her, but it’ll be great to see her on screen in good company. Her big “Oscar” role has to be around the corner soon.
‘“She’s in very good company. Pfeiffer plays a longtime mob wife alongside Robert De Niro, the actor who has played mobsters in everything fromThe Godfather: Part II to Goodfellas and Analyze This.”’
My first impression reading this quoted excerpt is that there was a touch of sarcastic tone, tongue-in-cheek or not, in the way De Niro’s experience in playing mobsters has been mentioned. Perhaps, I did read too much into it. . . .
Anyway, I’m curious as to #how# Pfeiffer’s role in this move might possibly help her shine during this year’s awards season given a #Luc Besson-directed# movie. [Not judging her]
This looks too low brow (and cheap) to win any awards. Poor Pfeiffer. She really deserves better roles. DeNiro is remarkably uninteresting now.
For the love of god, please do not cry De Niro, do not.
Looks good! Excited for la pfeiffer!
I’m hoping this is good, but that interview with all its “cheeky” references to past mob movies and the farcical tone of the trailer has me a little concerned.
Obviously there’s a way to do this kind of movie right (Analyze This) and a way to do it wrong (Analyze That). We’ll see how it goes I guess.
