A movie only the French could have made. And if you look up sensuous in the dictionary there will simply be a picture of this movie. Whatever punishments the director put these women through it produced an exceptional work of art.

Sasha Stone has been around the Oscar scene since 1999. Almost everything on this website is her fault.

I´ve seen this film during a French Film Fest one week ago, and it didn´t leave my mind since. Such an amazing amazing film! And those two actresses, Exarchopoulos and Seydoux, really gave the two best performances I´ve seen in a long time. I hope they both will be up for Best Actress (Seydoux is really a co-lead and not supporting), but I don´t see the film in competition for the main category. It´s really too arthouse and also way too explicit in a sexual way for the prude Academy.
Certainly one of the best romantic movies in the past let´s say twenty years.
Nice trailer, but I got super excited when I heard them using
BEACH HOUSE’s song Take Care !!! Some of you might remember Beach House from Miranda July’s last film. They are an amazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzing band. Do check them out 😉
Bryce,
It would have to be a work of staggering genius if those two were involved… however, I doubt their “genius” would have anything to do with it.
Pope,
Here’s the “genius”:
A HEARTBREAKING WORK OF STAGGERING GENIUS
Produced by moi and Brad Pitt who’s as of late making shit happen.
Co-Directed by L’enfant terrible Nicholas Winding Refn (DRIVE) and John Cassavetes’ abortion i.e. Derek Cianfrance (BLUE VALENTINE)
Lensed by Emmanuel Lubezki (Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN)
Based on “Blue Angel”, and Adapted to the English Language by does it really matter? lol uhhmm…Sir Ronald Harwood (THE DIVING BELL AND THE BUTTERFLY), Vincent Parannoud (PERSEPOLIS), and Lars von Trier (ANTICHRIST).
Scored by Daft Punk (TRON: LEGACY)
Edited by Stefan Ciupek (RUSSIAN ARK) see what I did there?
Casting by Sasha Stone
Here take my money!
Let´s take a second and imagine Michael Fassbender and Ryan Gosling in those roles.
great post bryce. but you forget to give yourself a producer credit ! 😉
This was hilarious, particularly: casting by Sasha Stone. LOLZ
So – just putting this out there – Chris Hemsworth+Henry Cavill in gender swapping remake of Blue is the Warmest Colour?
–Sasha Stone
May I suggest A HEARTBREAKING WORK OF STAGGERING GENIUS for the title?
David,
I think it has a shot at a Best Pic nom if only because it has not been submitted for Foreign. The Oscar campaign just has to be concerted. The Academy is seen to be old and fuddy-duddy but look at the number of new members and their demographics and Blue could make it.
The trailer is good, but the great thing is it only gives the tiniest of glimpses as to the emotional undercurrent of the film. Looking at it just now all the memories of the Cannes screening just came flooding back. Once you see the film, you just might experience what I did… an emotional tsunami.
William, Le Passé would have been my second choice for the French submission. It is good with a great performance from Bejo and in a perfect world, she would be nominated as well as Adele Exarchapoulos. And speaking of a perfect world, Exarchapoulos would win.
The pope
I think Brie Larson and Adele E both will get nominated for best actress
She probably will be overlooked, since France is not submitting this film.
French submission is ‘Renoir’ by Gilles Bourdos. So no Le Passé or Blue is the warmest color…. I thought Le Passé was very good.
Also ‘Borgman’, by Alex van Warmerdam, is the Dutch submission for best foreign film
William
Do you think ‘blue is the warmest color’ has a short at a best Pict nom?
Wow!!!!! Looks real good cantvwait to see it, I still believe and this is my opinion that Brie Larson and Adele E will both play a major factor in the best actress race!!!!!!!
