  1. Blackfish is nice and all, and I’m glad it’s raising awareness. But if we’re talking about the BEST documentary, the one that’s challenging the format and breaking ground in new ways, you have to give it to Stories We Tell or The Act of Killing. If Blackfish or 20 Feet from Stardom start winning all the awards this year, it will be a step back for documentary filmmaking. (Sorry Sasha!)

  2. Act of Killing was the most disturbing documentary I’ve ever seen. Unforgettable.

Stories We Tell actually wasn’t very good. It essentially adds up to a whole lotta nothing, and Polley knows it. That’s why at the end she says, “So why did I make this movie? Because I find it interesting to see divergent perspectives on old history.” Except no perspectives were divergent. In fact, every single person interview corroborated each other, in both facts and interpretation. Not a very good movie.

    “30 FOR 30″

All y’all with Netflix subscriptions go watch Run Ricky Run, Catching Hell, and June 17, 1994. None of these documentaries even share formats: Run is an intimate & sensitive character study, Catching is a shadowy vigilantism/alienation parable, and 1994 is some top-notch curated footage experience. Some rad documentarians get to do unique, oddball projects through that series :D

    Something something titanic little children

  4. Where is “Bridegroom”? An amazing tragic inspiring true love story which send out important message.

Hope it will do well in Oscar

  5. Patrick Mulholland

Three of the films nominated for Best Feature were directed by women, and another one was co-directed by at least one woman, possibly two. Terrific stuff!

  6. These are in fact enormous ideas in regarding blogging.
You have touched some good things here. Any way keep up wrinting.

  7. excellent publish, very informative. I wonder whyy the other specialists of this
sector do not understand this. You must proceed your writing.
I am confident, you’ve a great readers’ base already!
