Writers and Actors roundtables after the cut. (thanks phantom!)
Also here is the WRITERS ROUNDTABLE with George Clooney and Grant Heslov (The Monuments Men), Jonas Cuaron (Gravity), Julie Delpy (Before Midnight), Nicole Holofcener (Enough Said), John Ridley (12 Years a Slave) and Danny Strong (Lee Daniels’ The Butler). Great group, though it makes me wonder that if The Monuments Men had been never meant to be a contender, why would Clooney and Henslov do this ? …oh, well!
Plus the ACTORS ROUNDTABLE with Jake Gyllenhaal (Prisoners), Forest Whitaker (Lee Daniels’ The Butler), Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club), Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club), Josh Brolin (Labor Day) and Michael B. Jordan (Fruitvale Station).
LOL Danny Strong was going there for sec
And Jared Leto talks a lot. Love it. He’s a lock.
Man, they should have let Danny Strong explode!!!
Is this the 3rd yearly on-air atonement from Russell? It’s getting so old. He shouldn’t be invited anymore. Can this guy ask questions about filmmaking, the actual films or some other films the directors might like? Jeez it’s all about horrible anecdotes, and miserable happenings.
p.s. THR, get new moderators. This guy has a British accent, but he’s really trashy.
I’m glad they picked the directors they did, and I’m glad they included Ben Stiller, who’s not predominantly thought of as a director first, but more as an actor. I think Ben’s upcoming film The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is going to be amazing. At least judging by the trailer.
I thought it was interesting the questions they were asked, and it was cool when the one host asked Cuaron if he’s arrogant when directing a movie nowadays. “Don’t you think you have to be arrogant, because so many people are working for you”? (Or something like that is what he asked).
I also thought that was great when Cuaron says he’d like to work with his son again, but now his son is so busy, presumably because of the success of Gravity.
In my opinion, what separates a good director from a great one, is that a great director knows how to tell a story visually without needing to rely on just the dialogue. Sure, dialogue is essential to the story and the narrative, but the visual is what really helps the director to explain the meaning of a scene, e.i., how the camera is angled, what is the lighting, how are you framing the actor’s face, etc.
@ Phantom – My guess: even if Monuments Men wasn’t an awards contender, the exposure couldn’t hurt the film I wouldn’t guess.
@ phantom, darling
when are we getting the Actress Roundtable? Thanks
I was a little disappointed to see that JC Chandor wasn’t part of this. All is Lost was the best movie of the year IMO.
I had watched the actor’s roundtable a while ago and enjoyed it. I like that group of actors and would be happy if any of them is rewarded.
I didn’t find the other two roundtables that interesting. It seemed like Ben Stiller was the only one who felt like talking among the directors. Anyway that group wasn’t comfortable together. The writers weren’t that interesting either. I guess there’s a reason Stiller and Clooney are actors.
