  1. Can’t believe Blanchett was not even nominated!? Bullock is finally winning something. LOL

  2. SallyinChicago

Interesting the split between 12 Yrs and Gravity. I’m in concurrence to a point. I wish we could split the Director’s win at the Oscars between McQueen and Cuaron.

About Blanchett — maybe they thought her acting was too “showy”. While I feel she gave a great performance, at times her acting did seem very showy. But blame Woody for writing the character that way, not Blanchett.

  3. Ethan – They haven’t seen the film Blue Jasmine. You can be sure about that!!

  4. Just looked at their website. The voting body/member consists of 7 individuals, 6 men and 1 woman. What a joke! Not even Adele Exarchopoulos was nominated.

For people who said Blanchett’s performance was “showy”, as if Bullock dry-heaving and panting in her space suit was not, do you think an actor portraying a character on the verge of a massive nervous breakdown should put on a “subtle” performance?

  5. Sally – I think DGA will decide the winner!! I agree that it is a close call between these two or even three (including Jonze) guys.

  6. I only liked Gravity and thought Bullock’s performance dull. Yes, it was a breath-taking first sequence but found the story thin and not very compelling. And, yes, I appreciate they cast a woman. Friends who’ve seen the movie have expressed similar thoughts. Just my world.

    Only seven members? Oh.

  7. Bullock is now the frontrunner? Probably, yes. this win is a big boost.

  8. Ismael Ibarra

Seems like 12 Years a Slave is the frontrunner for Picture but Cuarón is the frontrunner for Director.

    Melon:

Bullock the frontrunner?? Because six people in Houston got together and decided to give her one win? Are you kidding?

  10. Does Sandra Bullock still live in Texas?

  11. julian the emperor

A win for The Hunt with this group. The first of the season, if I’m not wrong, despite lots of nominations.

  12. Great to see nominations for Christian Bale in American Hustle and Matthew McConaughey in Mud!

  13. So happy for score and cinematography for gravity! Also really excited for the hunt:)

  14. @ Melon?!? are you Watermelons’ cousin or something?

That’s like… The Houston Critics Awards man… HOUSTON!! LOL

Blanchett now has 7 Critics Awards! And yeah, 2 of them are the NYFCC and LAFCA!

  15. Let’s not forget Sandra Bullock shouts out to Houston more than 50 times in 90 minutes in Gravity.

  16. SallyinChicago

I believe Sandra Bullock lives in NOLA.

No Wolf of Wall Street among these critics awards? And what about the Great Gatsby which was heralded as being a contender early in the year? Hmmmm…..no Leo?

    1. Yes Sandra still resides in Texas, she owns a restaurant near her place in Austin.

    2. Yes the HFCS saw (and loved Blue Jasmine), by-law rules made the film ineligible. She would have likely won if votes had been allowed to count.

    3. Wolf of Wall Street was not screened before their voting deadline.

    4. HFCS has over 25 critics currently (even though Eric Harrison was just laid to rest on Saturday).

  18. Blanchett lost! Where is her sweeping wins, Blanchett fans?
