This year, Reese Witherspoon has three films coming out, two she carries completely and the other is Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice. She plays Deputy DA Penny Kimball in Inherent Vice (one of the love interests).
She’ll also open two movies.
Wild: “Cheryl Strayed was 26 in 1995 when she set out to hike more than 1,000 miles on the Pacific Crest Trail. Coping with her mother’s death to cancer at age 45, divorce and heroin use, Cheryl says she was at a very desperate and sad point in life and had “to save myself.” She saw a PCT guidebook in a department store and was drawn to the idea of hiking the trail. “I knew the wilderness was where I felt in touch with my highest self.”
She’ll also play the lead in The Good Lie: They were known simply as “The Lost Boys.” Orphaned by the brutal Civil war in Sudan that began in 1983, these young victims traveled as many as a thousand miles on foot in search of safety. Fifteen years later, a humanitarian effort would bring 3600 lost boys and girls to America. In “The Good Lie,” Philippe Falardeau (Monsieur Lazhar) brings the story of their survival and triumph to life. Starring Academy Award Winner Reese Witherspoon (Walk The Line), Corey Stoll (House Of Cards), Sarah Baker (The Campaign) alongside Sudanese actors Arnold Oceng, Ger Duany, Emmanuel Jal, and newcomer Nyakuoth Weil, many of whom were also children of war themselves.
Three potential Oscar nominations for Witherspoon this year.
