The Academy just released this photo of their having sent out to Meryl Streep recognition for her nomination.
American Hustle burns up the box office with $115 million, 12 Years a Slave re-released and has now made $40 million. Wolf of Wall Street has made $89 million. None of them can catch Gravity, sitting pretty with $258 million.[Boxoffice.com]
Cate Blanchett wonders why women are pawed with the camera and men are not.
The producers of Wolf of Wall Street have been determined by the Academy:
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has determined the individual nominees for “The Wolf of Wall Street” in the Best Picture category for the Oscars®. They are producers Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio, Joey McFarland and Emma Tillinger Koskoff.
“snuck into 12 Yrs again and it was packed every seat taken, and the audience was all white, exc. for one black couple.:”
Ok…….
meryl’s letter should’ve read:
dear meryl, thanks for divulging walt disney had racist proclivities & was an anti-semite & gender bigot, we’ve resolved to scratch emma thompson & tom hanks out of their nominations, so by default, you & bradley cooper made it!!! how exciting! congratulations! anyhow, we’re still supposed to let you know, as if you didn’t, that an academy award nomination is blah blah blah blah blah….
@Zach
I wonder if she keeps these letters, but I think she does. *gg*
I saw 12 Yrs again, after walking out of Captain Phillips. I was bored with Captain Phillips, altho I agree Tom Hanks gave a good portrayal, but the shaky cam when they shooting the Somalis on the sea made my dizzy….and honestly the story just wasn’t compelling….Anyway, I snuck into 12 Yrs again and it was packed every seat taken, and the audience was all white, exc. for one black couple.
Where is Sally Kirkland when we need her?
Did they send a poop-smeared rejection letter to Emma Thompson saying “You ain’t welcome here, this isn ‘t the 90’s any more”? Oh wait they already did this last week…
to be fair, this “burning” AMERICAN HUSTLE has been out 2 weeks longer than WOLF/WALL STREET and Sony has consistently kept it on about 300 more theatres than WOLF.
bring back Eddie Redmayne. like em or not, his fashion choices are worth a good look – or paw, as Cate would have it.
I favor the return of tights and codpieces. capes.
Ryan Gosling […] in a lime green speedo
shyd
And if Ryan Gosling showed up at the Oscars in a lime green speedo the cameras would definitely be pawing him.
Don’t give them ideas.
Ryan, but I believe WOWS has longer legs than Shutter Island. The 2013 film has all the awards promotion to make people want to see it. Shutter Island had zero awards promotion and was, for the general public, ‘just’ a suspense movie. These kinds of movies generally have a huge percentage of the BO in the first weeks/days. For films like WOWS, I believe, the BO is more diluted for the subsequence weeks.
Don’t you think?
Having said that, I don’t believe WOWS will reach 128k. I think it’ll get around 115k. This number can grow IF Leo wins best actor, which is the only Oscar WOWS may get close to get.
12 Years a slave must wins the oscar ’cause it’s the best movie of 2013, the best!
Wolf will sail past Aviator (great number for that), but wont likely get to Shutter Island numbers.
Absolutely John. Wolf has been in theaters only 4 weeks and already has $91M
Aviator’s $102M total took 24 weeks to accumulate.
In its 4th week, Shutter Island had already earned $108M
Naturally, the cameraman was just doing what he was supposed to do.
She’s dressed to kill and looked stunning in consequence at SAG (?). The cameraman was simply, if you’d like, [rightfully] doing his job, and I’m hoping, being a celeb in addition to a talented actor (actress), Cate knew the deal and felt him.
I needed to hear her voice to discern it properly but for now from the visuals I guess, she did it by default — not too critical about it or not even exceptive at all, but simply as some sort of natural reflex.
To those responsible for her hair and dress for this event: you deserve big KUDOS from me.
[*face-palm* Sigh . . . . Before you (I myself) know, you’ve already written a comment like a typical fan, say, from JustJared, lol . . . .]
Lol these peons telling Meryl Fucking Streep what an Oscar nomination is.
Congrats to Scorsese on his 12th Oscar nomination (and his 2nd as a producer; he was also a producer of ”Hugo”). And congrats to DiCaprio on his 5th Oscar nomination (and his 1st as a producer). Since it’s been his dream project, this must be especially gratifying.
But how did the Producers Guild of America and the Academy arrive at different conclusions about the eligible producers?
* PGA: Riza Aziz, Emma Koshoff and Joey McFarland
* Oscars: Scorsese, DiCaprio, McFarland and Koshoff
Happily, Pete Hammond at Deadline Hollywood writes about this.
He also points out that the Academy rarely likes to award more than 3 producers per movie (and yet ”12 Years a Slave” has five).

Actually, Wolf is 91.1 mill after official numbers came in and did very well this past weekend.
Slave is up to 41.1 and can hopefully get up to 50 by the end of its run.
So happy that Leo and Marty get Producer credits. Well-deserved.
Scorsese’s Biggest Box-Office Hits
1. The Departed…………..$132,384,315
2. Shutter Island…………..$128,012,934
3. The Aviator………………$102,610,330
4. The Wolf of Wall Street…..$91,147,021
Good point. If women stopped dressing like peacocks there would be less scrutiny and attention on them on the red carpet.
And if Ryan Gosling showed up at the Oscars in a lime green speedo the cameras would definitely be pawing him.
I get where Cate Blanchett is coming from but all the guys are wearing the same thing. The cameraman (or woman) was trying to look at the dress, not sexualize the actress.
