The Good, The Bad and the Ugly and The Misfits were just two memorable roles by Eli Wallach, who passed away today at 98 years old. His last role was in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. It was always nice to see him in a movie, even when it wasn’t the greatest movie. Wallach had a nice bit with Kate Winslet in The Holiday playing an old screenwriter.
Rest in peace.
What a career! Most actors would kill to have a career like Eli Wallach’s.
Watch some of his early stuff if you’ve never followed his acting. His performance in 1955’s “Baby Doll” with Carroll Baker was one of his very best.
I also liked his performance as Barbra Streisand’s father in “Nuts”.
I was so glad the Academy gave him an honorary Oscar a couple years ago. Better late than never. And his honorary Oscar was SO WELL DESERVED!
A really great American actor.
I’ve never read any bad press about this guy, ever. Everyone who was ever interviewed about Eli Wallach said he was a delight to work with.
RIP
Always a great presence indeed.
RIP–I LOVE him alongside Kate Winslet in The Holiday–LOVE IT!
How he never received a nomination, I’ll never understand
for some reason he was a evil bandito in 3 of my fave westerns…and great in all of them; MAGNIFICENT 7, HOW THE WEST WAS WON, and GOOD, BAD, UGLY. and of course the cannoli choking scene in GODFATHER 3.
R.I.P.
Such an incredibly impressive career and actor.
