Sasha Stone has been around the Oscar scene since 1999. Almost everything on this website is her fault.

The 1974 film is one of my favorites and one of the most underrated films of all time. You don’t try a remake of such perfection. The new trailer looks truly awful to me.
Brie Larson is amazing. I love her. She should have been nominated for Short Term 12 last year. Such a wonderful performance.
Movie looks really good.
“Wahlberg lacks the intense nervous tension of the young James Caan”
+1
Not even close.
Brie Larson Please!!!!!!!!!!!!
After watching the trailer I still don’t know what the movie is about. The only thing I know is that Marky Mark owes money to the Yakuza (pretty bad), naked John Goodman (serious bad) and Omar (ultra fucking bad). Oh, and also his mom is Jessica Lange and he also bangs his student at the University where he’s a proffesor for some reason. Worst trailer of the year.
“Of COURSE I’m a Stones fan. Of course that song’s a masterpiece. But it should be banished from all trailers for the rest of time.”
Danny, I get it. Some songs should be left alone because they shouldn’t be associated with some movie, or tv show instead of their original source.
“Al, you would have nominated the cat for Inside Llewyn Davis.”
Haha!! Robin, true. 🙂 The cat should have won an Oscar for best performance by an animal.
BTW, I think The Gambler looks like it will be good, but not necessarily Oscar good. We’ll see.
JESSICA LANGE!
Thats what I get from this trailer.
And to me it looks big enough and meaty enough to be in consideration.
I cannot stress how much I love this woman. She is always stellar. She has been pretty much owning television for 4 seasons of American Horror Story and I am so happy to see she is back on the big screen here. She was in “In Secret” earlier this year with Oscar Isaac and Elizabeth Olsen. Wasn’t a great film, but Lange was AMAZING. And here she looks to be a scene stealer.
I really really want this to happen for her. She just needs more and more work because, to me, she is the greatest working actress right now.
FYI: Into the Woods’ trailer is out. Sorry, it is a link from a Brazilian site.

Doesn’t do it for me.
Looks bland compared to Karel Reisz’s very shiny ’74 film and while Monahan spins a good yarn, but he doesn’t have the same edge as James Toback. Wahlberg lacks the intense nervous tension of the young James Caan, but the women appear stronger here – that’s about the only plus.
I pass.
Yeah that crossed my mind Bryce. She could do much better.
And yes, I do realize it seems to be “justified” by the “story” (i.e., professor/student). I don’t care. Just stop it already.
Hm.
Not sold at all.
Also, I never ever care about this (much less in “real life”, go Sam & Aaron Taylor-Johnson!), but does it look like Brie Larson is Wahlberg’s romantic interest? Ugh. I’m sorry, but he could be her grandpa! The thought is somehow more revolting than Polanski/Nastassja Kinski.
Jessica’s role doesn’t look big or flashy enough to lead to a nomination.
New INTO THE WOODS trailer. Hypes the Meryl and the singing. Call me crazy, but I think it looks solid.

Al, you would have nominated the cat for Inside Llewyn Davis.
I’m not sure what I make of this generally. I can’t really take Mark Wahlberg and Jessica Lange seriously at the moment. But Brie Larson, she fascinates me in pretty much everything she does.
I dont like the Stones that much but I love Gimme Shelter.
Of COURSE I’m a Stones fan. Of course that song’s a masterpiece. But it should be banished from all trailers for the rest of time.
Danny, really?! Not a Stones fan? Okay, breathe slowly, take a minute….
Okay, I can respect that. (That’s my favorite Rolling Stones song).
Lost me at “Gimme Shelter.” Let’s try to be better with our trailers, people!
Josh, I don’t think it’s possible to be crazy, thinking these things can happen. Jessica Lange is a really good actress. John Goodman is great in pretty much everything he’s in. I would have nominated him for Inside Llewyn Davis.
Am I crazy that I think both Goodman and Lange could be in the mix for supporting nods?
Ugh. That face!
I know some people complain that Meryl Streep gets the roles written for women over certain age. Could it be because she looks her age??? So does Judi Dench!
