In case you missed the Critics Choice Awards, you missed Jessica Chastain’s rather fantastic and inspiring speech on race and diversity. Ryan posted it here: https://www.awardsdaily.com/blog/2015/01/jessica-chastains-speaks-out-for-diversity-at-the-critics-choice-awards/
Ms. Chastain wasn’t nominated for an Oscar in A Most Violent Year, but she’s OK with that. She was grateful for the opportunity to appear in four films this year. She posted on her Twitter page:
Thank you all for the love! I’ve had the opportunity to be in 4 films this year that I’m really proud of. That is enough for me.
As if that wasn’t enough, here are Ten awesome quotes from Chastain to make us love her even more:
“My poor mother is telling everyone she knows, ‘Jessica is doing a movie with Brad Pitt, with Al Pacino’, and everyone is looking at her two years later going, ‘Sure, sure.’”
“I was excited that my films would finally see the light of day and people would see them. But I never imagined that such nice things would be said about a lot of my films.”
“When something happens, I always check myself and know it’s going to go away. So be prepared for it. This is a tough business for actors who are sensitive. If you try to hold on to things, you’ll go crazy.”
“I’m inspired by people who are so sensitive and vulnerable that they try to cover it up.”
“I love being around great actors and film-makers, and I try to hide the fact that I’m in awe of them.”
“I’m the first person in my family to go to college.”
“I like really, really silly movies, too! I saw The Other Woman recently and I loved it: Leslie Mann is a comic genius in that film, she’s amazing. And when I was at the theater, people looked at me really strangely, like, ‘What are you doing here?’ because my films are so different. But I’ll totally see a movie like that! I love ‘em all.”
I get embarrassed really easily. I get embarrassed even when people sing me “Happy Birthday.”
On rehearsals: “They’ll say, “Save it, save it”. I tell them: “Don’t worry. I have a bottomless well of tears.
