Over at Entertainment Weekly, Anthony Breznican gets the exclusive that in addition to the new producers being added to the this year’s Oscars, there will be TWO hosts. David Hill told Breznican, “There will be multiple hosts for sure – there will be two.” Breznican theorizes that the reason they’re saying two is because they already have two people in mind before announcing them. Amy Poehler and Tina Fey (whose contracts were up with the Golden Globes) are mentioned, as are Comedy Central’s Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele. The Academy’s recent reach for diversity, however, makes me think that they’re probably going to head more in that direction.
We know that they will be looking for names and draws to up their ratings. Anne Hathaway and James Franco’s co-hosting didn’t go so well. Hathaway would have been much better paired with someone like Billy Crystal or another showbiz vet. Kristin Wiig and Melissa McCarthy would be a great choice. Kristin Wiig and Will Farrell, also great. Chris Rock and Steve Martin would be my own personal match made in heaven.
Which hosts or co-hosts do you think would be good for the 88th?
