Serkis is a fantastic actor. Absolutely great in Sex and Drugs And Rock And Roll for which he got a BAFTA nod and it’s beyond stupid that they didn’t find some way to award him for his mastery in The Lord of The Rings Trilogy, especially The Two Towers, which would have been quite ordinary if not for him, who all but saved that segment.
I have not yet seen his work in the new “Apes”, but I will and no doubt it will be excellent.

“It is, in all seriousness, an award-worthy performance. Yes, the computer animation is amazing – the eyes have a plaintive depth, the hair has individual bristles. But the things that truly connect us to Caesar as a being worthy of empathy are Serkis’ movements. ”

Just came back from seeing the film. Serkis’ work really is just amazing, he would have to be one of the most talented people in the industry who cannot win an oscar.
