Ang-felina? Here’s an odd story circling the globe. Former TV Catwoman, Julie Newmar, “has given her blessing” for Angelina Jolie to take on the role in an upcoming movie nobody has heard about, based on the fact that “industry friends tell me she has already made enquiries about the role.” Cool how Hollywood works, isn’t it? Close to a hundred Google “news” sources are running with this as if it’s as factual as somebody beating up their mom. Cool how journalism works, isn’t it?
The 33-year-old actress – who gave birth to twins Knox and Vivienne earlier this month – is said to be in final negotiations with studio bosses to play the feline villain who first appeared in the Batman comics.
It is not clear whether she would play the role in the current Batman film series, starring Christian Bale as the caped crusader, or in a spin-off film as Halle Berry did in 2004′s Catwoman.
or… as long as we’re being unclear, we should probably consider the possibility this is just Angelina’s dream Halloween costume. Stay tuned.

Though this kind of wish-upon-a-star prophecy might account for Jim Carrey as The Cat in the Hat. I know of no other rational explanation.

Ever since someone mentioned Marion Cotillard as a dream casting choice for Catwoman, I can’t think of anyone else who should play her.

If I’m not mistaken, that Other woman is Daisy Wright.
Jolie would be a great casting choice — I just hope the script would be acceptable.
And Julie Newmar is great and all that — but there’s a special place in my heart for Catwoman as interpreted by Eartha Kitt. No one can purr like Eartha.

The irritating thing about non-stories like this is that sometimes they turn out to be true. As a blogger, do you ignore it or do you pass it along and cross your fingers that it turns out true?

Angelina would be purrrfect if she hadn’t already played so many super vixens. I want Emily Blunt. She’s the only person I see playing Catwoman now.

As casting goes, Jolie as Catwoman is too neat to be really interesting. I’d love someone a bit more out of left field, someone who could actually use the starmaking properties of the role… Zooey Deschanel would be fun.

I was a huge fan of Julie Newmar’s Catwoman and Michelle Pfeiffer’s will always have a special place in my heart.

I’m weeping at the thought of Angelina Jolie even considering this. She’s played this role in every film she’s been in.
Three words: Carter, Helena, Bonham. Put them in order and you have the perfect catwoman!
I doubt it will be Angelina Jolie if Nolan has the final word to it. She is just too well known and so much closer to what audiences think what catwoman should be that it will be a disappointment no matter what she or the director thinks catwoman should be. It will be tough for Jolie to bring something unique and fresh to the role with her persona (or as what we perceive her to be).

I happen to know someone (rather well) who would be the be all and end all as CATWOMAN. But *sigh* she’s not a NAME actor at this moment.

ANGELINA would be awesome. The only women I could think of that would be right are: Ms. Jolie, CATHERINE ZETA JONES, JENNIFER CONNOLLY and LENA OLIN.

You know what the problem with Jolie as Catwoman is?
Her celebrity would overshadow perhaps the movie itself.
To put it another way, remember 2005 when around time that WAR OF THE WORLDS and BATMAN BEGINS came out, that Cruise/Holmes shit (and beginning of Cruise’s downfall) began? I still think a reason why she didn’t return, i.e. WB told her to take a hike, is because that paparazzi affair got more attention than her movie?
I don’t see a need for another member of the famed rogue gallery to follow up The Joker in Nolan/Batman 3. Adapt elements of YEAR TWO and bring The Reaper to the corruptible streets of Gotham and finish this series off. I don’t think it was an accident that Bruce’s love interest was named Rachel and I think we’re going to explore her death and how it affected not only Bruce but characters we’ve yet to meet.
Just resend offers to Chris Cooper and Daniel Day-Lewis for Judson Caspian and I’ll be in heaven. By now I think Nolan has enough clout to land either one for the third outing than he did for BEGINS.

I would still love to see Rhona Mitra pull it off. She has the jawline and those entrancing almond-shaped eyes. And she’s slowly proving herself to be a formidable actress.
As for Tilda Swinton, the only role she would (and absolutely must) pull off in Nolan’s Batman universe is Poison Ivy.

Why not Vera Farmiga? If she can hold her own in the company of DiCaprio, Nicholson, Whalberg, etc… why couldn’t she do the same with Bale, Oldman, Freeman, etc? She would be a strange, brave choice much like Ledger was. And she doesn’t have Jolie’s “Katie Holmes-esque” issues. She’s no paparazzi magnet.
I sort of wish Batman would take a detour from recycling itself and the characters. The supporting characters have been done over and over and over again. Can’t they introduce some new villains; maybe there are some villains we haven’t heard about?
Every 10 years there’s a Batman movie “re-envisioned” with the same villains. This is worse than Sequel-mania that’s gripped Hollywood.

I am not going to go into a big lecture about how the antagonism
towards her is illegitimate and is based on a false label because she
got trapped by a complex web of deceit created by the tabloids which created a malicious misportrayal of her personality and personal life
because I know the ignorant masses are addicted to a horrible cycle

True, she has played the badass vixen role many times and it is what she is most known for. It would be typecasting. Though she also has a great potential as a character actress and I think she has a great range & a versatility that hasn’t been fully seen yet but will be seen. She has not played the vixen role in everything she has been in. People just choose to forget The Bone Collector, The Good Shepherd,A Mighty Heart, The Changeling, and etc. Even a lot of her vixen roles has had great complex characterizations; Gia, Original Sin, Lisa in Girl, Interrupted, and etc. Most of them were not mindless femme fatale
roles. She should impress most of you in The Changeling; the people
who are not completely infected with the baseless bias anyway. It
is people who like to feed into sleazy spin that makes me want to cry.
I am pretty sure the Catwoman stories are just gossip. I hope they are just gossip. I know for a fact that she has not been offered the role yet by Nolan. Though I know Nolan is already making his dream cast list for future possible villians. She would be the perfect choice but it is too much of the obvious choice. It would also be a huge step backward for her. I was very disappointed with her choosing Beowulf and Wanted. Considering this is supposed to be revisionist franchise of Batman, I don’t think he is going to go with the obvious choice. Though I think Christian Bale was an obvious choice but Gary Oldman,
Heath Ledger, Cillian Murphy, and some others were not. I think taking this role would be beneath her because it would not be a challenge in any way and she is trying to grow as an actress.
As for being a paparazzi and tabloid target, it is not always within the celebrity’s control. That should not be your point of judgement. A lot of really lousy celebrities are favored by the tabloids and some are lucky not to be in tabloids at all because they are not of huge public interest. In fact, the most popular actress right now is favored by the tabloids. She has such mental control over most of you. Tom Cruise did not earn his downfall. Katie Holmes acting was felt to lacka certain weight and presence. Christian Bale did not beat up his mom and sister. It was a violent argument and he pushed them slightly out of the way to leave the room.
