Off topic: Just saw Prisoners and a couple of comments: Movie is overrated with good actors. Jackman will not get an Oscar nom, but Jake Gyllenhall very well might.
Totally OT: Christ. Is there any other American director that so elegantly realizes the full potential of the wide screen other than Michael Mann? Makes you want to throw up at the thought of ARGO. And no, Tarantino is not the answer –he steals at least half his shots from other movies. Mann is the best, and I was ecstatic this morning to learn that he recently wrapped up framing the beauty of Chris Hemsworth in CYBER.
p.s. John Carpenter gives Mann a run for his money.
Agree. It’s a good movie for sure. But not anything I would consider award fodder by any means.
Behind Gravity, this is what I’m most excited to see (well, and 12 Years a Slave based on Sasha’s reviews).
Tom Hank’s nomination is a lock, and I could envision a classic “new guy vs. the vet” with Hanks and Ejiofor.
