Press release:
The Denver Film Critics Society honored “12 Years a Slave,” the harrowing true story of a free black man sold into slavery, with more nominations than any other 2013 film.
“Slave” earned seven nominations from the Colo.-based group, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor for Chiwetel Ejiofor. “American Hustle” and “Gravity” scored six nominations each, while “Captain Phillips” received five nominations.
DFCS will announce the winners January 13.
One important note: The directors decided not to include films that won’t be officially open in Denver until the new year. We felt that was the proper way to respect our specific market.
More James Franco love. This is interesting. I really wonder if he could pull off an Oscar nomination after all.
Also, I haven’t seen Out of the Furnace yet, but I like that someone gave it a nomination. I like these little outlier noms.
I think Amy Adams is bumping out Judi Dench or Sandra Bullock… Definitely not Streep or Thompson… I’m even thinking and hoping for Thompson to score a Blanchett upset….
Octavia shows up again, after all this time. So Glad!!! Good acting lists, surprised Judi didn’t make the cut. She is absolutely adored here. Still wanting to see more Gandolfini and Louis-Dreyfus mentions, but glad for the screenplay nod. Another nom for Amy A. A little sad to see Meryl missing, she was marvelous as always, but Amy rocked my world.
Nice job Denver.
According to the press release above, “August Osage County” was ineligible.
id rather thompson not get snubbed though! she was hilarious in saving mr banks. her peformance wasnt like wow worthy but then i thought about it that if she made me crack up in every scene then she atleeast deserves something. imo bullock is the weakest and really shouldnt even be in contention. would be a shame if adams missed out to her, just sayin.
Do people notice how Amy Adams is FINALLY starting to show up in some of these film critic Best Actress nominations.
That is why it is so important to get your film out there before late December. Most of these critics groups are frauds, just trying to PREDICT the oscars. That’s how SAG and Critics Choice missed Christoph Waltz last year.
The real question is is it too late for Adams to knock out Streep or Thompson? If the film was released 2 weeks earlier she’d be a slam dunk.
these are really decent nominations. too bad we all know what theyre really going to be, why even get our hopes up lol.
Now this is pretty much what the OSCAR nominees should be. Hopefully the Academy voters are paying attention. BTW, Jeremy Renner deserves recognition for his performance in “American Hustle” as well.
I predict the these best actress nominations will look the same Oscar morning
…I spoke too soon as Philomena got a screenplay nomination. But that’s just kind of weird.
Oh, well, seems they didn’t take to Nebraska and especially Her.
I could really live with that Beat Actor lineup.
Cooper and Hill both need to happen.
It feels like the critics who snub Philomena and August always do so entirely, which makes me question whether they’ve even seen those films.
I guess it really does take a while to sink in how great Amy Adams was in AMERICAN HUSTLE. Her name being written down in a lot of ballots as we speak, I bet. Please, do not forget about Bradley Cooper!
Anyone want putting themselves out there in the record predicting three acting nominations for Russell’s film? Anyone predicting four?
Inside llewyn Davis is a much better film than the Wolf of Wall Street. If Marty gets a DGA nomination and the Coen Brothers don ‘t I” ll have a heart attack.
Paddy,
Oh yeah!! Weird.
Lol they’ve done it again. Three years running! Some of those categories are ranked in order of preference, rather than alphabetically.
The first things I notice
1. The Wolf of Wall Street is present in BP
2. Inside Llewyn Davis is not present in BP
