Ah – judging from the trailer only (which contained no dialogue) – I’m yet to be swayed that this will be (performance-wise) in the same league as HMirren in ‘The Queen.’ Seems to be falling in the MWilliams as MMonroe category in MWWMarilyn. It would probably have been a juicier movie if they had gotten HMirren back and had The Queen’s & Diana hate-hate relationship explored.
Love to see if the Princes will even endorse/acknowledge this film.
I respect NWatts (who was outstanding in Mullholland and King Kong). The Impossible – its tsunami part was great, but (to me) it was like viewing a ‘Beyond the Posidein Adventure’ rehash of struggle, despair, faith and a survival ending you knew was coming as you paid your ticket price.
I thought THE IMPOSSIBLE was one of the best movies of last year, if not the best.
Love Naomi Watts to pieces, but honestly this looks like a movie I’ll probably never see. Even if she is nominated for the role… just judging by the premise and this teaser it looks like the same ole boring awards bait we’ve seen before. Fingers crossed I’m wrong…
Not go na judge the movie based on its teaser. I thought mediocre for “The Queen”‘s teaser too but look how that turned out. If Naomi pulls this off, I don’t have a problem when she wins an Oscar. Though I kinda hope Meryl gets her third lead actress Oscar haha
I totally disagree about The Impossible being a great role. For one thing, Naomi had a bag wig thing happening throughout the film. Very, very distracting. Also, the best characters have flaws and complexities. The character she played in The Impossible had none. This will likely be a far more interesting performance.
Pretty horrible. All it shows us is Diana in a purple shirt riding a bike. Watts looks great, but this truly is pathetic.
Awful trailer. It makes it look like a a basic cable movie of the week.
i hope Watts outshines the material if the film itself doesn’t deliver. however, her great role is one we just saw–THE IMPOSSIBLE. the Oscar should have been hers. there seemed to be this inevitable imperative that existed in Hollywood for Jennifer Lawrence to win this year. something i’ll never quite understand.
I’m not impressed. Looks very tv movie bio of the week. I love Naomi. So I’ll keep out hope. But that’s going to all come down to the script. Probably an obvious statement. But this just feels like a connect the dots of the story we already know.
Ouch. This looks really bad.
I am sure Watts will be more than passable – but with terrible material (which this looks perhaps to be) it may underperform on all levels.
I wish Watts the best – but this trailer just looks like a generic jumbled mess.
I disagree that The Iron Lady is unwatchable. Not a perfect film, but it is daring in its depiction of a woman in power and also a woman who is coping with advanced age. It also made over $113 million, and these bipics are trying to replicate that success.
Well, I quite loved the trailer and going by the buzz on you tube and internet, it seems other have loved it too. It’s quite surprising considering Diana was such a beloved women that many didn’t want her to be portrayed onscreen.
Honestly, trailer exceeded my own expectations. Without giving anything away about the story the trailer highlighted Naomi’s amazing transformation. No spoilers. No unnecessary schmaltz especially considering Diana was such a tragic figure. I was circumspect if the makers would be able to pull of the film, but now I am more hopeful.
One interesting thing though is that the film seems to have been made with more commercial sensibilities than artistic. Hence, I am not sure if it will be a big awards player apart from the obvious Best Actress.
The Iron Lady was just unwatchable but Streep won.
The Iron Lady had Harvey.
Streep won – yes.
But with a bad film Naomi Watts wouldn’t have the same luck, because .. well, she’s not Meryl Streep.
Just no…make it go away…
See Diana.
See Diana run.
Run, Diana, run.
No.
I had a bad feeling about this ever since it failed to score a high-profile distributor in Cannes and this trailer didn’t help, either. I’m getting a very strong ironladymyweekwithmarilyn-vibe : excellent lead turn from a celebrated actress in a mediocre film. Let’s hope I’ll be wrong.
it is not suppose to be a great movie. it’s only purpose is to bring an Oscar nomination for Naomi Watts. I don’t mind Naomi winning but I wish Hollywood starts making good movies with real characters that great actresses like her could play and win their Oscars, instead of stupid biopics that are safe and made only because there is a category for best actress in a leading role. if that category wouldn’t exist there would be no movies with women as leads, no Diana-Grace-Thatcher-biopics and no female acting winners (ok, maybe some, Meryl)
+1
damn!
*thank you* brace ! 🙂
Preach brother!
Looks like a lifetime movie meets The Iron Lady especially Diana in the blue dress suit.
eOne distribution does not bode well for Watts or the film.
It looks like a lesser TV flick.
Indeed.
Now, that’s a teaser….
Looks to me like a teaser in a real sense, no more no less. [Not a trailer to me]
“She looks quite beautiful when the light hits her in a certain way — of course, you can’t depend on that light.” — Arthur
Naomi Watts can do no wrong in my eyes. Such a versatile actress.
I couldn’t agree with you more, Chris. She’s fantastic.
However, I did not like this teaser. Too simple.
msn is a piss-poor trailer platform too.
Whoever edited this thing learned a lot from Jaws: If the visual effect isn’t all that convincing, don’t show the shark.
She’s a legend, but that’s a piss-poor trailer.
When I say legend, I don’t mean Diana, I mean Naomi OBVS.
Princess D was boring and the subject matter, plot looks boring. What makes anyone think that she was compelling? Is Hywd SO lacking of female roles that they have to film HER life?
