Poor Ann Curry is the latest victim to James McAvoy’s charms. She reveals her true intentions in this clip, and barely manages to hold it together throughout the rest of the interview. All I can say to you, Oscar watchers, full disclosure, is that I once turned down a phoner with McAvoy because of how cute he is. There are certain actors who are simply to attractive to deal with and he’s one of them. For me. At least Ann Curry went through with it!

Ha! Wow, Anne Curry says in this clip she’d throw James to the floor if kissing him was in their script… That would certainly head things up!
“There are certain actors who are simply to attractive to”O” deal with and he’s one of them.” Thank God Sasha is nor more circumspect in putting all her bets in the “Contender Tracker” based on star power and Oscar nominations and wins of the players alone, unlike that kris Tapley who automatically puts works of Oscar winners Matt Damon and Ron Howard just because of their Oscar “pedigree” So here’s to Sasha to being more cautious and not go C.W.W on us again this time…. Or is the Changeling her C.W.W. this year? Oscar prognosticators are such suckers for former Oscar winners and nominees. Sheeesh!
RichardA,
After all the hoo-ha about Atonement, thanks for making me laugh. The other night after the Daily Show interview my less than avid movie watching husband asked if he’d seen McAvoy in anything. I realized that the only film he’d seen him in was Chronicles… When I told him who he was in that film, I received a flat, “Oh.” I think McAvoy will always be Mr. Tumnus in our household as well (I’ll just harbor my individual affections).
Glimmer…. YES, Eva Mendes!!
Ah, he’ll always be Mr. Tumnus to me.
James McAvoy is extremely attractive one because he has nice face two he is very talented (talent is always a plus) and he has a very attractive personality (I believe it is that part that matters most).
mcAllister….eva mendes ???????????????????????
For a truly great James McAvoy moment, check out his interview with Ryan Seacrest (http://ryan.kiisfm.com/cc-common/mediaplayer/player.html?redir=yes&mps=kiisfm.php&mid=http://a1135.g.akamai.net/f/1135/18227/1h/cchannel.download.akamai.com/18227/podcast/LOSANGELES-CA/KIIS-FM/jamesmccavoy011608.mp3?CPROG=PCAST&CPROG=RICHMEDIA&MARKET=LOSANGELES-CA&NG_FORMAT=personality&NG_ID=RYAN1027IP&OR_NEWSFORMAT=&OWNER=&SERVER_NAME=ryan.kiisfm.com&SITE_ID=3108&STATION_ID=RYAN-IP&TRACK=) in which he does a hilarious spot-on Seacrest impression. It’s from last December when he was promoting Atonement and I actually stayed in my car after I got to work to listen to the whole interview.
By the way, “Atonement” is brilliant, one of the greats in 2007.
Nice.
Bryan Adams.
It’s all good, I never said I didn’t like James or the movie, but his performance just didn’t blow me away and I gave the movie a B.
I think we all have that ability and in fact we all agree and disagree almost equally. I hated INTO THE WILD for example, a film that the same 85% loved. I loved ACROSS THE UNIVERSE and didn’t care for THE FLIGHT OF THE RED BALLOON, in both cases bucking the trend.
I just thought I would point out in the context and spirit of sharing opinions on ATONEMENT that I would point out that it was just about a unanimous concensus on the excellence of McAvoy’s performance. I hadn’t read anywhere, nor heard from anyone that his performance evinced any kind of overacting.
You are entitled to your opinion and you expressed it, and I do not expect you to considered critics’ opinions in coming to your own assessment.
The first hour of Atonement was good, the middle part dragged and the last part picked up a bit. I’m not really that focused on what the critics say. If I watch a film and say that I liked it just because 85% of critics did. Then what does that make me? Fortunately I can form my own opinions about films.
I have not forgotten. I just felt it was worth pointing out that your opinion was in a severe minority.
No biggie.
As you can see I said “I”. I guess you forgot that some people have different opinions.
Thanks Saltire Flower, you and I have championed this film right from the start, and we are on the same wave length on its magnificent components.
Fair enough, HaroldsMaude. (I like that user name, and there we share another fondness for that adored Ashby cult movie!) Like Turan, I was extremely moved by the film, (the elegiac Dunkirk segment and Vanessa Redgrave’s master-class of acting in the film’s unforgettable finale stay with me to this day) and its unforgettable score by Dario Marianelli and the indellible visuals………….including that green dress. I respect your position—I relaize much of this is taste, and for one reason or another this one is right up my alley. (and Saltire’s) I also do know that the proprietors of this site were all fond of the film to varying degrees.
But there were others like you who professed indifference.
SamJ: We agree on PSH”s win on Capote and disagree on “Atonement”. That’s interesting and what keeps me reading and writing on this stuff. I believe that film is an art and entertainment and I know what is good and I know what I like and I know that sometimes they don’t match.
I remain open to discussion about Atonement. I just disagree with the critics (including my favorite, Ken Turan) and evidently you, about it’s emotional value. It didn’t grab me or surprise me or give me any sense of emotion that I really hoped to get from an epic romance. I liked Keira’s green dress, does that help?
Why do people always assume people find someone attractive because of their looks? James McAvoy is cute (hey freckles don’t hurt and I have a thing for short men), but that’s not why I like him. He’s witty, charming, intelligent, and a darn good actor who never chooses the same role twice. And his interviews are always interesting to watch. That’s just my personal taste. I have a thing for odd looking men in general – I have gotten a lot of crap for my Bill Nighy and Jack White fixations, but whatever.
And Sam, I’m inclined to agree with you – Atonement was the best film of the year.
“ATONEMENT…………that long, boring film………”
Actually, ATONEMENT’s only problem is that it’s running time is way too short. As to it being boring, well tyhank goodness roughly 85% of the critics disagree with you, and even a higher percentage of Award Daily’s readers.
It remains in my estimation the best film of 2008.
Here’s why I love McAvoy: He’s cute and he’s a good (not great – yet) actor and his ruddy cheeks in Atonement (still the best part of that long boring film). But then this too: He’s tons of fun. I agree with k: his 6 minutes on the Daily Show were pure joy, mostly because he kept up with Stewart, provided a lively interview and is does not take himself seriously (though he’s a serious actor). I love seeing interviews like the ones he does on the Daily Show because I think the beer drinking, pub going, soccer playing Scottish kid gets to come out in ways that press for movies like Last King don’t allow.
Seattle, I agree! It seems like every one of my female friends are obsessive about this guy… and while he has a lot of charm, I just don’t see it in the looks department. Scarlett Johansson is beautiful, yes, a classic beauty, I would say… and a great figure. But the Grace Kelly comparisons drive me insane. The only actresses I can think of that I might put in Grace Kelly’s category right now are Eva Mendes & Marion Cotillard (not as Edith Piaf, though). And I mean undeniable beauty that shows a lot of class, not that they look like Grace Kelly.
hmmm. i don’t know about this girl-gushing over McAvoy. i grant he is a good actor, but a heart-throb? that seems to be a stretch. must be a girl thing. also a Hollywood PR thing. sometimes assessments in the looks department go way over the top. case in point–Scarlett Johansson. as a guy, i find her looks to be “okay.” certainly nothing special. but i’ve heard comparisons to Grace Kelly. what the….
press reps are working overtime on some of these new “stars”
“I thought he overeacted in ‘Atonement’ (The crying scene with Keira)
Oh really? This completely contradicts virtually the entire critical esablishment. The critics who loved ATONEMENT, praised McAvoy’s performance. The critics who didn’t like ATONEMENT, praised McAvoy’s performance. The critics who were indifferent about ATONEMENT praised McAvoy’s performance. And the crying scene was praised as one of the most genuine scenes in the film, a scene that everyone agrees McAvoy excelled.
Okay I use to really like James McAvoy, then all of a sudden everyone started fawning over him.
I agree he’s charming, but IMO he’s not that good looking he’s cute at best. There’s nothing about him that makes me want to go all ga ga for, but I guess that is just personal taste.
I thought he overracted in Atonement ( The crying scene with Kiera) and the only thing that he really impressed me in was “The Last King of Scotland”.
So, I’m kind of getting a James Mcavoy overload here, that’s not really his fault.
It’s impossible not to love this man. He can make even the most sensible woman turn into a giddy schoolgirl. I can’t wait to see Wanted.
McAllister, I ever tell you of how I once had a date with a gal who was a big fan of FIGHT CLUB?
Now I’m a big fan of FC, one of the defining movies of my generation….but the idea of a woman liking a movie that blamed the “feminization” of men, among other things, for Gen X’s problems.
Then again, I paid to see 30 DAYS OF NIGHT. What the hell do I know?
I love him. When he was on The Daily Show, it was just six minutes of AWESOME.
I saw Wanted last night and the movie is good… but the source material is a bit dumb in places. But the acting by McAvoy and Jolie is great. Jolie is fantastic in everything she does. McAvoy fits in well in the movie.
And while it’s marketed more as a Matrix type… it’s most definitely more of a Fight Club type.
regina, I need to see WANTED to give it a fair review, though honestly those ads that practically sold it as “MATRIX in the real world”* and well, hate to say this….but Jolie’s other action fare has basically sucked.
But who knows, maybe WANTED is good after all.
As for this whole posting….Sasha, you nerd. 🙂

James McAvoy is perfect for drama but he is not good for action.
And the charm and looks that so many women (including Sasha) are awestruck by, are complimented by exceptional acting talent, including his lauded turn in ATONEMENT, which rightfully should have won his an acting nomination.
But am I really telling you what we don’t already know? LOL.
I would also totally throw him on the ground. lol
J
I will fully admit that as a straight man, I find James McAvoy to be extremely charming.
