Tom O’Neil reports that Angelina and Brad, along with Meryl Streep, will be no-shows at Monday’s Oscar nominee luncheon, which reminds me a bit of a speed dating group meeting. Each one gets a chance to hob nob with the Academy for a few minutes, flash a smile, a bit of leg and maybe just maybe their name will get called. The best thing about the luncheon, by the way, is to be part of that group photo they do every year. So let’s look at few tips from a Speed Dating site that might help some of our less seasoned nominees.
Tip 1: Be Prepared!
The funny is that you only have six or ten minutes to decide whom will consider you consider you [Oscar] material! Well, you might as well make the best of it and have some solid questions prepared. You might want to consider having answers for these questions at the ready! Prepare a mini ” Personal Infomercial” around each question, a quick one minute response that highlights some positive aspect of your personality! Here are a few very popular [Oscar nominations luncheon] questions to ask:* What are you most proud of in your life?
* Is religion important to you?
* What do you do for fun?
* Why did your last [Oscar nomination] turn out?
* Do you want to get or have you ever wanted an Oscar?
* Do you want or do you have any [other awards]?
* If we got into an argument, how would we settle it?
* Where do you see yourself in five years?
* What do you do for work?
* Is [statuette] compatibility important to you?
* What do you look for in an [Academy member]?Tip 3: Fun Questions:
Sometimes, it is better to show a sense of humor than to appear overly serious at the first, here are some humorous questions you can use to break the ice:*Do you kiss on the first [Oscar nominations luncheon]? If so, how soon can we go out?
Tip 4: Be Confident! Show Confidence, Even If You Don’t Feel Confident!
People like their [Oscar nominees] to show confidence. The truth is you can “Fake it until you make it.” In other words, in the course of “acting” confident, you actually train yourself to be more confident! Try it, it works!Tip 5: Make Introductions
Many times, a [nominees luncheon] event is segmented by age, so you only meet [voters] in your age bracket. It it always pays to introduce yourself to as many [voters] as time permits. You never know when you may meet again!Tip 6: Don’t Be a Whiner
In other words, have a positive attitude going into the event. If you immediately look around, and decide, “[no one is going to vote] for me,” or “I should be with the [losers] over there”, You have already closed your mind to being successful. Keep an open mind, be pleasant, grin and bear it!! Who knows what connections you might make later on as a result!!
Be brave, nominees. And don’t forget the breath mints, Rolaids, lip gloss, Spanx, and a little uplift in necessary areas never did anyone any harm.
