I never understood how team racing works. I always thought it’s everybody vs each other.
Don’t know how good indicator this is (if any) for award season, but yesterday the creme of the current F1 community saw Rush in special screening and gave it a standing ovation in the end.

Big face is bad enough. but that direct confrontational stare tips pretty close to parody.

Bruhl was terrific in JOYEUX NOEL. hope this works for him. and the big face poster has become a cliche. look at ANY Tom Cruise movie prior to his Oprah/Couch incident. since then posters have backed away from the Tom-head image.
And not a moment to soon to be pulling away from ‘the face.’
I think it started in the 80s with Arnie’s agent insisting that his name be almost as big as the movie title and just his image on the poster. Cruise and Bruce followed suit and I’m reluctant to say it, but Leo is drifting in the same direction: The Aviator, Shutter Island, J. Edgar. Gatsby pulled far enough back to include the other cast members so it will be interesting to see where they focus The Wolf of Wall Street.
Looking at WWZ, it is quite a change to see a star confident enough to stand with his back to us.
Kris Tapley (In Contention) predicts Rush is going big with the awards season, with nominations in Best Picture, Director, Supporting Actor, Cinematography among other categories). I know Formula 1 is not a very popular subject in american sports culture, but it’s a worldwide passion and I think many will remember the good days of F1 in this Ron Howard film. It’s so sad that Senna missed a Documentary slot in 2011, it’s so worth it.
Yeah, not a fan of these. I hope this one delivers. I’d love nothing more than Daniel Bruhl being nominated for Best Supporting Actor. He has special spot in my heart. GOOD BYE LENIN was the first foreign film I ever saw. I picked it up at block-buster not knowing this, motivated only by how cute he looked in the cover.
I almost watched this on Netflix last night, also due to his cuteness. Is it worth checking out?
Definitely! I bet it’d make my 2003 top 10 if I ever did one.
Sure! Goodbye Lenin! is highly recommendable for those who like History and fiction altogether. Daniel Bruhl is very touching, it’s such a unique point of view of the downfall of East Germany. Go forward!
Great, it’s on my list for the weekend, thanks!
I prefer my racecar drivers with less makeup.
Steve50,
If you don’t like your F1 drivers wearing make-up, you may wish to look away once the mid-point of the movie occurs. History tells us that there was the crash-n-burn of all crash-n-burns half way through that season. Make-up aplenty!
Really not a fan of the giant face approach. Hemsworth looks confused and hurt in the first shot and Bruhl just looks like a sad attempt to seem intense.
Hurt confusion. Sad intensity.
Everyone’s driven by something.
