Jack Nicholson reportedly retired from acting?

If true, news so sad it’s tough to even contemplate. From RadarOnline.

He’ll still sit court side at Los Angeles Lakers’ games, but Hollywood legend Jack Nicholson has quietly retired from the movie business, RadarOnline.com has exclusively learned.

The 76-year-old icon has no plans to appear in films again after a career spanning five decades.

“Jack has — without fanfare — retired,” a well-placed Hollywood film insider confirmed to Radar.

“There is a simple reason behind his decision — it’s memory loss. Quite frankly, at 76, Jack has memory issues and can no longer remember the lines being asked of him.

“His memory isn’t what it used to be.”

The three-time Academy Award winner has not worked since How Do You Know in 2010 starring Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd and Owen Wilson.

Tellingly, producers for the forthcoming film Nebraska had wanted him to play the key role of an aging, booze-addled father who makes the trip from Montana to Nebraska with his estranged son in order to claim a million dollar Mega Sweepstakes Marketing prize…

“Jack has no intention of retiring from the limelight,” said the source, who noted his regular appearances on the Hollywood party circuit, court side at his beloved Lakers and his co-presentation of the Academy Award for Best Picture with First Lady Michelle Obama, earlier this year.

“He’s not retiring from public life, at all. He just doesn’t want a tribute,” added the insider. “He’s happy to tacitly join the retirees club like Sean Connery.”

  1. Wow. That sucks. How Do You Know is a terrible way to go out. At least come back for one more, a la Abbey Road, Jack! Just one more!

  2. The movie world would not be the same without:
    George and his football helmet
    Bobby Dupea
    Badass Buddusky
    Jake Gittes
    David
    McMurphy
    Jack Torrence
    Frank
    E. O’Neill
    Garrett Breedlove
    Charley P
    Darly Van Horne
    Col Jessup
    Warren Schmidt
    Melvin Udall
    Frank Costello

Has anybody else created this many iconic characters?

    Thanks, Jack!

  3. I doubt he’s out for good

  4. My Personal Favorites

    1. CHINATOWN
    2. FIVE EASY PIECES
    3. THE SHINING
    4. THE LAST DETAIL
    5. THE PASSENGER
    6. THE DEPARTED
    7. THE MISSOURI BREAKS
    8. BATMAN
    9. THE WITCHES OF EASTWICK
    10. TOMMY

My introduction to him was ANGER MANAGEMENT and -boy- he was colossal as ever in despite the unspeakable co-lead!

  5. He’s happy to tacitly join the retirees club like Sean Connery.

Sean Connery has a club? Bet it’s men-only.

  6. Chinatown contains my personal favorite Jack Nicholson performance as well. J. J. Gittes . . . what a suave puss he was in that movie. Love it when he hauls off and slugs Dunaway. I’ve always wondered if he angry with her? The verisimilitude was palpable.

I just saw The Last Detail – he was pretty good in that film too. It’s remarkable how the movie hasn’t aged that much.

I also like his performance in Carnal Knowledge. He’s such douche-bag in that movie.

  7. It was just reported that this whole article was a lie, he has no plans of retiring and does not have memory loss.

  8. Couldn’t be any worse than when Sean Connery went out with The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen in 2003 or when Gene Hackman went out with Welcome to Mooseport in 2004. At least Nicholson ended with a film directed by a good friend (a friend who helped Nicholson win 2 out of his 3 Oscars)

  9. I just saw The Last Detail – he was pretty good in that film too. It’s remarkable how the movie hasn’t aged that much

Aye dude. Hal Ashby (HAROLD AND MAUDE) is one of the very best Jack has ever worked with (alongside Scorsese, Antonioni, Polanski, Kubrick) and most of his movies have aged tremendously well –unlike Mike Nichols, on whom I gave up after 3 films, so unfortunately I never made it to CARNAL KNOWLEDGE, but douchebag Nicholson might be enough for me to buy if it ever gets on the Netflix. Also not a fan of Milos Forman at all…like, zero sensibility for that stuff. Sorry to digress so much, but since it now seems like the reports’ truthiness is being challenged, I don’t feel so solemn anymore :)

  10. yeah i read it was a lie, too. jack hasn’t worked in 3 years and isn’t shooting anything now so i guess its true (or at least partially) until he starts doing something.

  11. Well I certainly hope it’s a lie.

Otherwise, we’re going to have to start a petition to make it against the law for Jack Nicholson to retire.

  12. Just let him deliver his own lines. His own character is better than most scripts.

  13. Just reported that this is a hoax. Not true.

  14. Cormac’s website should be flagged. It’s porn.
