The lead in Gone Girl is one of those once-in-a-lifetime roles for an actress. It isn’t going to be an easy choice. But for now, one of the actors in talks for the male lead is Ben Affleck, who was seen having lunch with David Fincher, which then led to a Deadline story. But there is no official confirmation yet. Affleck’s kind of perfect for it – as would be Jon Hamm or Henry Cavill. He’s supposed to be kind of a nice guy douche who is bossed around by his sister (another great part) but more importantly, was born with a face people trust because he is so good looking.
The women “in talks” for the lead, according to The Wrap, would be Natalie Portman (already been a Black Swan), Emily Blunt (was mean in Devil Wears Prada) and Charlize Theron (already been a Young Adult).
I feel like there are four actresses born to play the part: Jessica Chastain, Rachel McAdams (already been a Mean Girl), Amy Adams and Gwyneth Paltrow. Paltrow *is* Amazing Amy. I aso think the greatly underrated Jennifer Garner would have a career making role on her hands but they could never cast Affleck and Garner. But who would watch the kids? Either which way, the negotiations continue…
Speaking of the twin sister, she would have to be a good compliment to Affleck (if he’s cast) and snarky, dark, punkish. Clea Duvall, or even Blunt would be good for that part.
Amy Adams for sure. She is exactly how I pictured Amy when I read the book – I can already imagine the Veronica Lake like curls and the strawberry blonde.
Please no no! No Amy Adams or Ben Affleck. And def not Gwyneth Paltrow!
My casting suggestions:
NICK: Josh Holloway, Alexander Skarsgard, Luke Evans,
AMY: Kristen Wiig, Rachel Weisz, Rachel McAdams, Emily Blunt, Jennifer Connelly, Claire Danes, Diane Kruger, Marion Cotillard, Chloe Sevigny
BONEY:
ANDIE:
GO: Katherine Moennig, Rooney Mara, Mia Wasikowska, Evan Rachel Wood,
From the list, I can see the beautiful, talented Rachel McAdams as Amy. She is very good at projecting her characters’ vulnerability onto the screen as well.
And, perhaps, Amy Adams is the most ideal candidate for now – I can imagine her being good on surface of the character and before the devil knows, turn out simply to be bad and deceitful in the end.
Emily Blunt. Well, I can see her bring out the best of Amy as well. But what about the accent? (Does Amy the American character need to speak in NY accent? I love Emily’s posh, natal British accent but having seen her Hollywood-based movies notwithstanding, I think she will need a very good accent coach for this task. Just saying.)

(Don’t throw bricks. xD I don’t eat them. [lol]) To be blunt, I can’t imagine Paltrow as Amy D.

But I think, first we need to make sure who is going to play Nick.
Bryce..
Yes, Gone Girl is a great read ….
Ben would be good… NO Paltrow!!! Blunt would be excellent.
Is Gone Girl a must-read?
If it wasn’t before, it is now.
Short answer: yes. Gillian Flynn writes rings around Stieg Larsson.
Ryan, YOU write rings around Stieg Larsson…most eloquent people do, btw
Scratch what I said above!! Just read an article that stated Natalie Portman, Charlize Theron and Emily Blunt are the front runners and one of them will be chosen. Interesting choices by Fincher…
Let’s not forget about Reese Witherspoon. She will be a producer on the film so I think her name should be thrown in the mix. Having read the book, I think Amy Adams would be a perfect choice!! And she has been branching out the past couple of years. Rachel McAdams would be an inspired choice and a good way to get away from all the romantic flicks that she tends to pick. She has shown versatility as an actress in Mean Girls, Midnight in Paris, The Notebook, Wedding Crashers and Married Life! Whoever gets the part and nails it as Amy, can possibly win an Oscar.
Gwyneth? Really. Meh.
Give the part to Elizabeth Banks if she is supposed to be older than Ben Affleck. He is over 40. And Jessica Chastain as the twin.
I don’t think that Garner would be a good choice. Having read the book, I think that the right choice will be Paltrow, Theron or Blunt. I don’t think that the other actresses have the darkness the role demands.
Will someone watch the kids for Ben and Jen?
Have you seen Jennifer Garner in “Butter”? Combined with Jennifer’s turn in “Juno”, I think she’s the perfect Amazing Amy. Sooooo, perfect.
No idea what the qualifications for the female role would be but what about the idea of casting someone completely against type like a female comedian. Could someone like Amy Poehler or Kristen Wiig pull it off? I know both have mentioned that they would like to do dramatic work.
What a great suggestion! I’d love to see Amy or Kristen take a shot at a role like this. And Devon had another great suggestion with Elizabeth Banks.
My vote is for Adams, although I think Affleck isnt great casting so im not holding my breath for good casting here either. I doubt Theron is actually in the running seeing that she is doing the other Flynn movie that Adams dropped out of.
As much as I dislike her I think g. Paltrow would be gret in the part. Not sure about Affleck though maybe someone who can act would be better??? Read the book and would not call sister “bossy”..hey maybe Bradley cooper??
I had an actress in mind when I saw the headline but now I can’t remember who I was thinking of!!
Today’s been that kind of day, LOL! 😀

Wow, Clea Duvall. She’s been underrated for many years and her being in this would be hella interesting. Good pick!
Agreed about Maggie Gyllenhaal, I thought of her as soon as I read the character description, which obviously everyone else did too. Jennifer Carpenter would be an easy cast for Go as well, since she’s basically Debra Morgan. Very excited about Ben Affleck, not what I imagined, but I like it. I’d love to see Amy Adams stretch her dark wings a little as Amy. I think the age issues with Blunt and Portman aren’t a big deal. They’re feeling older than they used to be, they’re not 23 anymore, a 32 year old can relate to that as much as a 38 year old. All these actresses are talented, I can’t wait to see this movie!
Gwyneth would be pretty damn amazing, and she could totally play off all of this hate for her in the media. Not to mention the shared history there. I wonder if they are on good terms? Good call, Sasha!
Hell to the NO to Goop! Stay home and sell your overpriced online crap…
Oh and Maggie Gyllenhall would be perfect as Go.
Amy is supposed to be older than Nick, and her insecurities about the age difference is highlighted in the book. That said, Natalie and Emily both do not look older than Ben. Charlize, maybe. But she’s already starring in the other Gillian Flynn adaptation so I doubt she’ll take on this role?
Of the pictures above, I like Jessica Chastain and Amy Adams. They would be perfect.
Pfft pfft pfft NatPo and Emily Blunt look older than big beardy Benny? K sure.
