Based on his best-selling memoir, The Railway Man tells the extraordinary and epic true story of Eric Lomax, a British Army officer who is tormented as a prisoner of war at a Japanese labour camp during World War II. Decades later, Lomax discovers that the Japanese interpreter he holds responsible for much of his treatment is still alive and sets out to confront him, and his haunting past.
A powerful tale of survival, love and redemption, THE RAILWAY MAN stars Academy Award-winners Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman, with Jeremy Irvine and Stellan Skarsgård.
Five character posters after the cut.
Excellent article. I will be going through many of these issues as
well..
This isn’t qualifying for 2013. And it looks like pure sap.
Ray, in regard to Mik’s comment above, am I to take it this isn’t going to be released in Los Angeles until 2014?
IMBD says the Australian release date is late this year – December 26, 2013. Could that coincide with a US release as well? Just curious if you’ve heard anything.
It is a good thing they left this one ’til next year, where it probably will make a bigger dent than it would’ve in this race.
Nicole Kidman is very good in The Railway Man and Colin Firth is wonderful in it.
Just looked up on IMBD the technical credits for The Railway Man”. Here are two other enticements which people might note of interest:
David Hirshfelder (of “Elizabeth” fame) did the score.
Lizzy Gardiner (of “The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert” fame) designed the costumes.
I love how the way they used Hans Zimmer’s music from “The Thin Red Line” to good use in this promotional ad.
Not a fan of Kidman’s, but she looks quite good in what could be an understated, Oscar-worthy performance.
As for Colin Firth . . . well . . . and the nominees for best actor are . . .
The picture itself could be the stuff Best Picture Oscar dreams are made of.
