I only vote in one critics group, and that’s this one. The reason being, I wouldn’t want to cover the awards race and also vote on movies – to me it’s a little bit of a conflict of interest. Here are the nominees:

“Best Director (Female or Male)”
Why the gender qualification?
Nicole Kidman doesn’t need this Women’s group to bring her down.
Nicole has the guts to take on this role. She’s a champion. She can win the Oscar in Paperboy and win another Oscar for The Railway Man and show them what it takes to be a real pro.
What a weirdo list!!!
Kidman needs a new agent? Now, after Rabbit Hole and The Papeboy???
The Amazing Spider-Man shouldn’t have been made?
Stupid women group!
Really laughable.
I was thinking the same thing. Since when is a 72 something to run around and brag about….hell if you don’t get in the mid 70’s someone should be wondering about the director and the screenwriter not too mention the cinematographer and editor. I’ve seen so many clips from this film and I gotta tell ya that Pitch Perfect seems like a better way to spend 120 minutes than listening to the catter walling they’re calling singing in Les Mis. The more clips I see the more I’m dreading seeing this.
Not caring for the idea of negative categories. That’s what the Razzies are for. From a group of journalists , it just sounds mean.
Speaking of mean – I wouldn’t mind some of that action, rufus, if your agent can swing it.
I wouldn’t mind urinating on Zac Effron. I’d be grateful to my agent if he could get me that gig.
Anne Hathaway is SO SOLID this Awards Season. . . 3 Nominations here and a WIN for Best Actress (Not Best Supporting, which means she beat out the likes of Jessica Chastain and Jennifer Lawrence) by the Women’s Film Critic’s Circle!!!!
What fun nominations these are. I love the playfulness of the categories, and some are spot on. The award season has become so heavy and cynical, I absolutely love this type of recognition.
NICOLE KIDMAN IN NEED OF A NEW AGENT? Hell no. If she continues to do these challenging, daring roles then I say she retains her current agent.
“Just goes to show women hates women who look beautiful.”
Is this the reason there is so much hate for Sasha from women.
Nicole Kidman’s agent is fine. No thanks to this silly “Women in Film Journalism Awards”. Kidman’s achievement speaks for itself and she’s gonna win the Oscar.
Just goes to show women hates women who look beautiful.
“”I’ll never understand why Alan Arkin keeps showing up in these nominations””.
My thought is this. In many cases award nods are a status thing for many critics and OSCAR voters not so much for performance. If you do a decent job and likeable your pretty much in than if you are not liked no matter how great you are. Just like film critics groups being all over the map trying to out do each other with each group choosing different best pictures. IMHO.
Queen Jennifer with 3 nominations !! 🙂 and… a “Outstanding Achievement Award”
I suppose I am one of a few who thinks that the film “The Master” is hugely overrated. interesting that these females didn’t like “Les Miserables” and if female will not like the film surely males aren’t going to get in line for it as well.
Ain’t happy at “WRECK-IT RALPH”‘s exclusion. Pulling for “BRAVE” to win this one, still waiting for “WRECK-IT RALPH” to win the Oscar.
Me neither Jerry.
A waste of a nomination.
Laughable about kidman and Cohen.
Happy for dowd
I’ll never understand why Alan Arkin keeps showing up in these nominations.
61 and 72% scores are now worth bragging about? After the early screenings Les Mis seemed to be a big Oscar player, now it’s like a kid bragging because he got a D+ and a C- on his final exam. Pathetic.
I don’t get some of the latter categories. I wish I had Kidman’s agent.
The Metacritic vs. Rotten Tomatoes debate has been had far too many times. Rotten Tomatoes endows the responses of people of questionable taste and cinematic knowledge with too much significance, and simplifies its complex reviews to either good or bad.
I know, WTF, Nicole Kidman? I wonder if that new agent of hers could line her up a year in which she stars in projects yielding her two Golden Globe nominations, two SAG nominations and an Emmy nomination, not to mention a potential Oscar nomination.
Queen Hathaway with two nominations!
Haha, Nicole’s in line for an Oscar nomination and they think she needs a new agent. Laughable.
That woman has a remarkable filmography, so diverse.
lol dont think Nicole Kidman cares that Women in Film Journalism think she needs a new agent.
Those over-extended categories really decrease the importance of this group. So unnecessary to cover everything.
I don’t know why everyone is rely on Metacritic so much. They’re select only around 40 top critics which (in my opinion) are too few to judge the movie. And the bias weight average is…. questionable and mysterious. Average Rating (not Tomatometer) on RottenTomatoes does better job here with more critics (200+ for blockbuster and award-winning movie) and every voice has same weight.
I like (NOT) that category “Movie you just wanted to love but couldn’t.” It’s like ‘speak for yourself.’ But then they are speaking for themselves. Ha!
LES MISERABLES has crossed a critical threshold today, rising to a most respectable 61 per cent at Meta Critic, on the strength of glowing reviews posted by Peter Travers and James Bernandelli. That represents a move into the “green,” which denotes generally favorable reviews.
Meanwhile at RT, the film has a solid 72% with 60 favorable and 23 negative.
For a musical (traditionally the scourge of a number of the intellectual young bloggers who need to show how hip and smart they are) these are excellent numbers I must say.
I’m guessing that Roger Deakins is the intended cinematography nominee for Skyfall, not Thomas Newman.
Seriously, Sacha Baron Cohen in the hall of shame for “The Dictator”??? Another proof Cohen is way more brilliant than those critizing him. Cohen plays bigots so you can laugh at them for their ridiculous behaviours. He’s not exploiting women (or gays) on his films, he’s actually doing the contrary. As in Borat.
The other women’s critics group announced a few days ago, the WFCC. They’re mad, and bad, and not in a good way:
