Brief production update. We don’t usually report on cast and crew rosters of movies before the cameras roll, but yesterday brought some worthy news. If the stellar acting talent assembled by Quentin Tarantino for Django Unchained isn’t already enough to get you excited, it’s now official that he’ll be reteaming with 2-time Oscar winning cinematographer Robert Richardson, and the film will be edited by Fred Raskin who worked on both installments of Kill Bill.
Django Unchained is set for a Dec 25th, 2012 premiere. Cast for the lead roles, after the cut.
Leonardo DiCaprio … Calvin Candie
Joseph Gordon-Levitt … Jano
Samuel L. Jackson … Stephen
Christoph Waltz … Dr. King Schultz
Kurt Russell … Ace Woody
Sacha Baron Cohen … Scotty
Jamie Foxx … Django
James Remar … Ace Speck
Kerry Washington … Broomhilda
Tom Savini … Ellis Brittle
Anthony LaPaglia … Roy
Don Johnson … Spencer Gordon Bennet
Interesting how they decided to with Menke’s assistant/partner instead of bringing someone totally new. I like this approach better. I was worried a new editor wouldn’t work well within Tarantino’s vision.
@ steve50 and Tero
totally agreed on PT. i just hope it actually comes out in 2012 (same with malick)… imdb has “the master” as 2013 so perhaps i should have left it off this list but i’ve read in many other places that its going to be december 2012. perhaps this is wishful thinking
After There Will Be Blood, you must have The Master at #1. PTA needs an Oscar way more than Fincher, for example. He is THE most talented director in the USA. He is one of them that have been dumped to Screenplay – still losing.
Tom Savini… damn Quentin takes all his idols.
I met Christoph Waltz earlier this week. I has pics.
That is one hell of a lineup. I would definitely make PT Anderson’s The Master at the top of my list, too (actually, I would agree with your order – maybe move Refn up a couple spots).
@ tero
I do not have “lincoln” as one of my top 5-10 most anticipated of 2012 but its close. I obviously respect Spielberg and nobody admires Day-Lewis more than me. I haven’t seen spielberg’s two films for 2011 so maybe that would change my mind. That’s no slight on “lincoln” that its not on this list… other filmmakers who have films coming out in 2012 i left off are Allen, Jarmusch, Kar-Wai, baumbach, assayas, cianfrance (blue valentine), the debut of roman coppola, etc
i’m just jacked about the lineup… it crushes the 2011 lineup and makes it look quite pedestrian by comparison
Most anticipated of 2012
1.The Master-PT Anderson
2.Untitled Malick Film- Malick
3.Django Unchained- Tarantino
4.Moonrise Kingdom- Wes Anderson
5.Coogan’s trade- Dominik (I adored “jesse james”)
6.Gravity- cuaron
7.The dark knight rises- Nolan
8.Only god forgives- refn (I adored this year’s refn/gosling collab)
9.The hobbit- peter jackson
10.Amour- Haneke
11.Lincoln- Spielberg
Could you share your Top 5 or 10, drake? Is Lincoln on the list?
this is extremely worthy news in my opinion… thanks for sharing Ryan! i got a list of about 30 most anticipated for 2012 (this is near the top) and although i think we could still have some good films here in 2011 its hard to think it will compare with the tremendous 2012 lineup!
Upcoming blu-ray extra: “Hi, Fred”.
i read the screenplay for Django Unchained just a couple of days ago. so excited for this.
I love coming here, but your website keeps making my internet browser slow down dramatically and then crash. I’ve never had a problem with the site before and it’s only your site that is making it do this. If it doesn’t get fixed I’m gonna have to stop coming.
I can’t wait. I wonder how this would fare at the Awards race…
Broomhilda?
Wow. Great and talented people working on both sides of the camera. I can’t wait.
