According to the Hollywood Reporter. The English-born actress will have to do an American dialect. She did it reasonably well in Fracture, opposite Ryan Gosling. She would work alongside Ben Affleck as the doomed couple.

I think it´s very strange that all of a sudden everybody cares for Affleck´s acting talent again. I think he´s a good director and writer but he never was a very good actor. I mean Affleck himself should know better and just focus on being a filmmaker. It leaves a bitter taste in my mouth because I just love Fincher and everything he has done but I keep my expectations very low this time.
I just remember that there was praise for his performance as George Reeves in Hollywoodland but I have never seen it. Maybe there is hope.
She’s great. Good choice.
Less enthused about Affleck though who is at best an average actor and usually a wooden leading man…but a good film-maker nonetheless.
Great underrated actress. I hope she gets it.
There’s a mystery about her and that could work to her advantage.
Wow! Thats a pleasant surprise! She is a very good actress and can really pull it off
I support this 100 percent. Casting is about surprises and finding new potential stars. It also saves on the budget and the giant egos.
Can you remove my email? I received a thank you note from Rosamund Pike, which was very lovely, but I am not affiliated with the film.
done, Devon.
didn’t notice that your online ID was your email until you mentioned it.
Thank you. Great site. One of my absolute favorites.
Do you think Reese Witherspoon will let bygones be by gones and approve casting her ex’s fling? Or do producers have nothing to do with casting?
According to Variety, http://variety.com/2013/film/news/david-fincher-gone-girl-1200564084/ although Pike looks like the frontrunner, Fincher will meet with Abbie Cornish, Olivia Wilde and Julianne Hough as well. Cornish and Hough are too young for Affleck in my opinon.
Yea, but Cornish is a fantastic actress. Hopefully she impresses Fincher.
I didn’t know Cornish is over 30. I though she is younger. Then I take it back. She is also in the mix. Personally I root for Wilde, because I’m a fan of hers, and I think she is underrated as an actress, plus always have the impression that she looking mature then her real age. That being said, anybody would be great from the Pike-Cornish-Wilde trio if Fincher decides among them who going to get the role.
why not someone like rachel mcadams?????
She is awful like Emily Blunt, really forgettable.
If i were directing, I would cast Anne Hathaway. She’s the best actress in Hollywood!
Farming a would be great but she is to old for the part. Think ms. Pike would look the part but not sure she is much of an actress.
Is it wrong of me? to immediately think that instead of getting excited for Rosamund Pike, I only want David Fincher to direct the next film in the ‘Millennium” trilogy: The Girl Who Played with Fire.
If it is, we’ll be wrong together. It’s all I care about. However, I’m a fan, so I cannot say no to Fincher’s work.
I like Rosamund Pike. I haven’t read the book, but for the little I know, I think Affleck is a strange choice. I’m reading Gone Girl next, maybe I’ll change my mind about it.
Yeah, you’re right. No matter what David Fincher does, it’s amazing. I LOVE Fight Club, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Social Network, and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
I’m sure I will eventually be excited too for Fincher and Pike.
I’m reading the book right now and I think Pike would be an inspired choice. My personal picks would have been Jake Gyllenhaal as Nick, Maggie Gyllenhaal as Margo, and Vera Farmiga/Emily Blunt as Amy. But that’s just me.
I was picturing Farmiga while reading it!
Thanks for the update and the link, Sasha.
According to the “exclusive” article over there, Charlize Theron “is not doing this movie”. Natalie Portman and Emily Blunt, unfortunately for the latter, are ruled out “due to their availability” as well.
I trust David Fincher. He knows what he wants in the end. But my friend Lenny used to say, it ain’t over til it’s over.
And I’ve got a feeling the beautiful and hopefully sufficiently talented Rosamund Pike is far from being safe in her place. However, I believe, co-starring with Tom Cruise in one of his recent efforts help place her, again, onto the map. (Love her though in Pride and Prejudice.)
In my opinion, it’s still a long way to go.
(So poor I couldn’t afford another “to”.) : )

[Continued]
I’m planning to finish half of the novel this weekend, hopefully. I may have some better idea for myself then. Anyway, here’s the deal.
The funny thing is, according to Amy, Nick looks like the rich-boy villain in an ‘80s teen movie, the one who bullies the misfit, the one who will end up with a pie in the puss, the whipped cream wilting his upturned collar as everyone in the cafeteria cheers – except that he reportedly doesn’t act that way.
Nick is gorgeous; so is Affleck. But in my opinion Ben looks more like an all-American good guy, a gentlemanlike kind of dude to my foreign eyes at least, not that Varsity-type footballer and scrub ready to be dumped by the heroine typically in Act II (in other films).
I might need to read (the novel) more. But for now, that’s how I see it. (I am not really saying Affleck is not right for the part; just discussing the snippet of Amy’s own remarks.)
As for the English-born Rosamund Pike, no offense, but with or without perfect American accent, I just can’t imagine, #for now at least#, her uttering words like: I met a boy, a great, gorgeous dude, a funny, cool-ass guy. (Not even in a monologue fashion.)
Anyone can say that sentence out loud, I know. But can they live it? I mean for instance, I could imagine Rachel McAdams doing that, convincingly. But […] due respect, Ms. Pike — I’m not sure about that.
“Nick looks like the rich-boy villain in an ‘80s teen movie, the one who bullies the misfit”
Affleck tried to play that very role in Dazed and Confused when he was 21 years old. He was the least convincing performance in the whole movie. Everyone else in the cast felt like they belonged at that high school. Affleck was all wrong. He nearly ruins Dazed and Confused for me.
Ryan, did you then at least enjoy seeing all that white paint dumped on him, and then him throwing a fit and storming off. That was a classic moment.
It’s a satisfying fate for the character. I don’t have an problem with the character’s behavior and the payback he gets is sweet. I just don’t find Affleck as convincing as the other actors in the cast.
I’m not sure if Affleck is already a fix as in himself having already secured the deal. Because if not, this is not going to end too soon. Even if Affleck is already a safe bet, then naturally, they will still need to be concerned — among others — about the chemistry among the main cast members with him as the center of the universe, I believe. So, it’s a long road.
Moreover, I guess the Rosamund Pike news is just part of their PR stunt for now. And the role is still up for grabs.

she’s one of the most underrated actresses. i’ve seen her do North American accents well in a few films–most notably Barney’s Version, which she was amazing in. a classy choice
Big surprise… Before a frame is seen by anyone, Sasha declares somebody involved in a Fincher film as a frontrunner
This headline was copied from the Hollywood Reporter article.
Frontrunner to be selected for the role in David Fincher upcoming film GONE GIRL. Not frontrunner to win the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role. Get it stupid?

Aren’t you late for a meetup in the forums or something?
Rosamund Pike is a frontrunner for every role in every film in my mind.
Great choice! I was really hoping they wouldn’t pick some hugely popular, recognizable, American actress. It would be hard to separate that persona from the incredible, complex Character that is Amy.
I’m still nervous about Affleck, I just can’t picture him as Nick, and really can’t see him being able to pull it off.
Yes! Love her!!
