We swarmed all over the other end of the story like fire-ants, so it’s only fair to devote a column inch or two to the happy resolution (and vindication):
Christian Bale will not face charges over alleged assault
The Dark Knight star Christian Bale will not be charged following an alleged assault on his mother and sister, the Crown Prosecution Service confirmed tonight.
A CPS spokesman said: “We can today confirm that we have advised the Metropolitan Police Service that the actor Christian Bale should not face any charges following an incident which occurred in relation to his mother and sister at the Dorchester hotel on 21 July this year.”
The CPS said they found “insufficient evidence” to support the reasonable prospect of a conviction.
By posting this we run the risk of being accused of “coddling celebrities,” but As Nikki Finke would say: “TOLDJA!”
When reached for comment, Harry Potter didn’t say, “Bloody hell, will nothing stop this juggernaut? Buggery bollocks, me and The Half-Blood Prince are moving to Summer ’09. Have fun owning 2008 for Warner Bros, Batman.”

Told ya!
Batman has no limits
Thank you for the update. Now I have to return some videotapes.
I see a point in putting up the Bale article (seeings as the point has always been about how pathetic tabloids are, this conclusion is very fitting) but isn’t HBP being moved back to a different oscar year more important i.e. more dserving of a news story on Awardsdaily?
The Harry Potter quote was extremely hilarious, but isn’t that a pretty important story in and of itself?
Strange, though…2 HP movies will come out in the same year, only months apart.
Thanks for that Bale photo, Ryan.
Ditto on the photo thanks. And I’m personally glad to see some mention of the end of this story, given the over -attention it received.
Had to post this. Ethics demanded it. (Although last month it seemed we were one of the few pages anywhere on the web not ready to lynch Bale, so we’re relatively guilt-free at AD.)
Interesting to note, some sites rabidly jumped the gun with shrill headlines like “has Christian Bale doomed his Oscar hopes?” and made clutzy remarks like “nobody wants to embrace a thug.” Those same sites are predictably mum today about the mum-bashing being a fraud.
Just doesn’t make a juicy enough story when a star is being wrongfully accused. Much more fun for some to squirm around breathlessly at the possibility that someone’s career might be wrecked.
On a brighter note: Glad you guys like the photo. Reminds me that I meant to make it clickable to a larger size, so now it is.
