Nice top choice there from the New York Film Critics Online!
I wish Lake Bell would win some of these debut director prizes.
wouldn’t it be sickening if only one of them was winning everything everywhere?
Well, that would depend on what movie were actually sweeping. But yes, it’s nice to see some varied winners and nominations.
Also, it’s a little strange that the other two critics’ groups that announced have long comment threads, but this article doesn’t. Hopefully more people click on it.
I think everyone congregated in one thread and conversations had been started before the NYFCO got rolling. So nobody wanted to leave the party where they started hanging out since before noon. I think we’ll see more even distribution between posts when other readers come looking later.
Great, isn’t it? With so many fantastic films this year, wouldn’t it be sickening if only one of them was winning everything everywhere?
Hooray hooray hooray! Finally it feels like individual critic organisations feel comfortable to have their own voices, independent of the opinions and choices of other critic groups. Except for the notion that NYFCC are a bunch of dumb bastards.
Honestly if the Oscars picked this line-up I would be a happy man.
I wonder if all of these “Best Debut Director” awards that Ryan Coogler is racking up will translate into a surprise Best Director nom ala Zeitlin last year.
FINALLY! Best Director win for ALFONSO CUARON! I am pretty much sure that Jared Leto is a lock now.
This year is pretty funny how everything is all over the place. 🙂
