Peter Jackson made a video of recording I See Fire. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=uf8Fwiy0Bkc
“I understand what they’re going for with CumberSmaug, but I think a voice from someone who has not played a Summer Blockbuster Villain this year would have been a more intriguing choice.”
What you said makes a lot of sense. I would think Cumberbatch signed for The Hobbit before Star Trek, too. He’s really become a resident baddie. Kate Winslet hmmmm? Has she ever played a man in a film? If yes, why not a dragon? A natural progression I’d say.
Awesome!! There can NEVER be enough Middle Earth!!
You haters can go scratch!!
Ed Sheeran wrote, produced and sang a song for Desolation of Smaug. It could be a serious Oscar contender if it’s eligible. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DzD12qo1knM
I understand what they’re going for with CumberSmaug, but I think a voice from someone who has not played a Summer Blockbuster Villain this year would have been a more intriguing choice. For example, how would the scene feel if a more-than-capable performer, such as Oscar-winner Kate Winslet (The Holiday, Iris) were performing the role of The Dragon?? One wold shiver with fear in the echo of that alluring yet threatening vocal performance!
This is starting to look like a video game, so much so that it is taking the life out of The Hobbit. Fran Walsh…how could you let this happen? You were so incisive on those director’s commentaries for the extended editions, about direction and good storytelling. I wonder how it will affect the legacy of Lord of the Rings.
I guess living through the release of The Fellowship of the Ring is a curse for me. That movie, that theatrical experience was pure wonder. It made me fall in love with New Zealand. Here there are so many visual effects shots that you can’t appreciate “Middle Earth” as of a world tangential to our own. And I have to say, the combination of real staging, models, and effects (Massive, CGI) in Fellowship was masterful. I’d argue the Moria sequence leading up to the aftermath of the Bridge of Khazad-Dum is one of the most stunningly executed I have ever seen. I just hope they nail Smaug….I know that’s not much to hope for, but I’ll be frustrated if DragonHeart after over 17 years had a better dragon.
Gorgeous ain’t it? I can’t wait. 😀
Benedict Cumberbatch as Smaug seems to be perfect casting, because he sounds perfect.
Probably self-indulgent and too long for it’s own good. Still it’s visually breathtaking and it looks like there will be enough variety within set pieces and action sequences along with I’m assuming the real bulk of the adventure. The last one was pushing my patience. I still don’t think Jackson needed to do some 3 part trilogy with one book, but you got me. I’m interested with reservations.
I am uncharacteristically more excited about HUNGER GAMES 2 than both THE HOBBITT 2 and THOR 2 which causes me great concern. Having said that, CAPTAIN AMERICAN 2 looks freaking fantastic.
Zzzzzzzzzzz.
