Strange things are happening to our democracy. Maybe we saw them coming, maybe we didn’t but Capitalism has led to a sharp divide between the haves and the have-nots. It wasn’t supposed to be like this. It was supposed to be about the free market and competition. But labor was sent overseas, factories closed, the middle class began to disappear. What do we have, though, that many other countries don’t? What do we scream from the rooftops at times like this? Freedom of speech, dawg. And that means we can blow up the shit of just about anyone, as long as it isn’t slander. Even rich mofos like David Koch.
Citizen Koch sought to reveal the dominance of the Koch brothers – conservatives, wouldn’t you know – who have their pasty white fingers in just about every pie. Funding was secured for public television, then abruptly pulled because one of the pasty white Koch brothers was a muckety-muck in public television, wouldn’t you know. So they took it to the peeps and in 3 days they raised upwards of $90,000. THAT, my friends, is democracy in action. THAT is the country I live in.
They asked us why we donated to the cause and I’m posting my answer here instead of on the kickstarter site and my answer is this: we didn’t endure a bloody revolution, bother with a Declaration of Independence, write a Constitution only to see our rights stripped because we live in a country that coddles the 1%, the new aristocracy. I also want to send a message to PBS, a non-profit I have supported for over 30 years, that this will not stand. At what cost credibility? I stand with Elsewhere Films.
to say you don’t care about the Koch Bros politics is absurd. Yes, to greed being the motivator, of course, but educate yourself to know what and WHO they own is vital. Search for the many documentaries out there.
The American public must wake up to the reality that the conservative, racist, greedy Koch Bros have adversely effected our social and political process. They and their now deceased father Fred, a co-founder of the racist John Birch society have been working behind the scenes for more than 50 years to destroy the middle class and to attempt to reverse the gains of the middle class, It should also be noted that the unethical supreme court justices, Scalia and Thomas are puppets of the Koch bros policies,
Honestly, their politics mean nothing to me. Greed is the real motive behind their actions, not philosophy.
I didn’t know about the fundraiser. Is it still going on?
SallyinChicago, here it is:
25 days to go.
Sasha, is the documentary going to point out that the Kochs have opposed the Patriot Act, and supported gay marriage and drug legalization? Or will this just be a one sided “conservatives are EVIL” hit piece?
Is that really true? I doubt it considering the candidates they’ve decided to throw their money behind.
tr, is your Google broken?
Does this make up for all the bad they have done and plan to do once they have their dream killing machinery up and running? These guys mean us all harm. That is an objective truth any unbiased and knowledgeable observer will conclude
I’ve watched things on PBS and then at the end it will say ‘funding for this program was provided by’ and then in the list it will say Koch something. Either them or their organization if they have one. I assumed it was them but wasn’t sure.
I really don’t know much about them except that they’re the bad guys. I do think it’s a little funny when people think we have a democracy though. It’s pretty much already over. Unless the people decide to take up arms like the rest of the world is doing.
I love this. Cheers for Kickstarter (and for your post, Sasha).
As for PBS, they probably had to weigh the PR damage for this decision against the long term damage the Koch’s could have inflicted on the network in a variety of ways over the long term. Sometimes I gag on the corporate donor acknowledgements for Frontline and other political shows.
Freedom of speech does have a pricetag, but at least, so far, you didn’t have to post this from the Duty Free of a Moscow airport.
I’m not gonna rewrite anything, but I think a little editing could make this more honest.
They asked us why we donated to the cause and I’m posting my answer here instead of on the kickstarter site and my answer is this: . . . because . . . the Koch brothers . . . are . . . conservatives, wouldn’t you know.
There, wasn’t that more to the point?
Oh it’s so wonderful, it’s like Christmas! Kick starter is so great:)
