Tommy Lee Jones as Thaddeus Stevens after the cut.
I guess everyone would have seen this: DDL “eastwooding” a chair when accepting a BAFTA honour.
James Spader is such a fantastic actor. He trained in the chekhov technique. You can see the ease he has with his physicality, and just how much details he creates for his characters through his mannerisms.
Sure to steal every scene he’s in!
I´m still not convinced by these clips. But does anybody else smell the sag award for best ensemble?
I was thinking there will be two major SAG competitors – Lincoln and Les Mis and it will be a fight to the death.
I dont know what you need to be convinced!
This is a truly great movie, with great performances. As i said yesterday in a different thread, Tommy Lee Jones may get supporting nod too, but for me unexpected surprise was James Spader.
I only wish lots of people would see this movie! An instant classic for me!
Shit… looks like Tommy lee Jones is tearing up the screen and taking names. Can’t wait to see this!
Lincoln will win the best picture Oscar!
I agree that SAG might be between LIncoln and LEs Miz, probably Argo getting nod too. But in that case I have a feeling that Lincoln may have a slight advantage over Les Miz. While the latter has a bunch of talented actors, LIncoln has lots of well respected actors in its supporting cast. In many cases you know that you recognize the actor from other movies but just don’t remember the name.
JFK, Nixon and now Lincoln. Biopics involving POTUS with big-name ensembles. When JFK was released, there were no SAG awards (though SAG did have a yearly ceremony where they handed out an honorary award to one of their members). Nixon did not win despite a pretty impressive ensemble. Les Mis might do it, but watch out for such contenders as The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (hey, they’re British…), Skyfall, Moonrise Kingdom (I know, I know…if The Royal Tenenbaums couldn’t make the cut, how can this…), and especially Silver Linings Playbook.
That one in particular could easily steal the award. You have an Oscar veteran returning to form (De Niro), a hot young Oscar newbie (Lawrence), a true breakout performance (Cooper), a performance by an Aussie character actress they regret dismissing a few years back (Weaver), a couple of notable character actors (Shea Whigham, John Ortiz, Dash Mihok, Julia Stiles) and a comedian breaking from form (Chris Tucker)…
My predicted 5 (#1 = predicted winner)
1. Silver Linings Playbook
2. Les Miserables
3. The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
5. Moonrise Kingdom
Keep Django in mind…
Anonymous word coming out from a recent screening suggest the ensemble is good, with Waltz (big praise) as the proper lead and Jackson’s apparently v good. Ditto DiCaprio.
QT films do alright at SAG.
I swear some of you live in outer space lol
only possible winners this year are Lincoln, Les Mis, and Zero Dark Thirty
Argo is solid but forgetable film, Silver Linings is fun but its just Love and Other Drugs part 2
If the Academy didnt give a fuck about Politics they’d give it to The Master. Because really PT is the best Film maker around, and this film is flawless. People are just not patient enough to really sit and figure out what its about, and just how well put together it is.
Judging from that hilarious first clip, how is James Spader not getting more Oscar buzz for his performance?
The first 3 are locks and 2 of the other 3 will make the cut. Can this be the strongest SAG lineup ever?
Totally forgot about Moonrise Kingdom and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. I add those 2 (although i don’t see them making the cut).
Lincoln was boring. If you think otherwise, you’re delusional. No flow, no joy, and too much stagey intellectualism. The death scene was completely gratuitous. It WON’T win BP. DDL will be the film’s only win.
It’s Argo’s to lose.
If Lincoln doesn’t win ensemble, it will be a travesty.
for SAG im predicting
3)The Dark Knight Rises
4)Silver Linings Playbook
Can’t wait to see Jones in this! Heard he is nothing less than stellar…
‘Lincoln’ cast is good but I think has some weak links … though D.D.L. is so exceptional he should count as ten actors. Still, my money’s on ‘Argo.’ Mix of new faces and old pros, plus great Iranian actors — the whole range of SAG membership represented and nailing it.
I think everyone is overlooking Beasts of the Southern Wild, sure to be a Golden Globe nominee. There’s always a “little” film (remember The Hurt Locker) the Academy noms and I think that’s it.
Lincoln “looks” boring. It looks like an actor’s stagey type movie, and I fail to see the public going to see it in droves. Sort of like Armistad, another stagey type movie from Spielberg.
The clip of Jones and Field I saw a few nights ago is better than this one of Jones. I think this film may be going all the way — and that includes SAG ensemble in a tight race as Sasha suggests. Not only is there DDL but also a very strong supporting cast. The publicity seems to be going right and the timing of the release is perfect.
Funny how when I heard Russell Crowe singing in the Les Miz trailer I immediately thought Lincoln’s going to win Oscar BP.
Well after thirteen days of no communication with the outside world due to a little storm named Sandy I finally had power restored late yesterday afternoon and now am looking forward to try to “catch up” with what’s going on here. Missed this site.
Hope all your family, friends and pets are warm and dry.
—-This 6th —7th? Lincoln, with its tedious script
and oppressive, industrialized Hollywood ‘authenticity’
is yet more ‘on board’ predictive programming
—-yet another PC moral alibi for things unfolding.
Surely in 2012, with what we are witnessing, the ONLY
thing urgently relevant aspect of the Lincoln legacy
yet to be treated –or even mentioned by Hollywood
was his very possibly —FATAL— diss of the Global
USURY monopoly over finance of the war.
Once again, completely omitted in this flick.
