Thrilled by the inlcusion of ‘What Maisie Knew’, but sad to see ‘Labor Day’ passed over again.
Yay for The Spectacular Now! I know is a long show but I would love to see a Best Adapted Screenplay nominations at the Oscar. It’d be so well deserve!
Interesting point that this would be the only award where the writers of both the screenplay AND source material would be recognized, and thus Jordan Belfort would be recognized had WOWS been nominated.
Rufus, actually 4 of the 5 nominees aren’t surprising. But What Maisie Knew making it in…never saw that coming. I forgot it even existed.
WOWS SHOULD win for script IMO, and I hope the Oscars don’t snub it Dragon Tattoo-style.
Are plays eligible (Osage), or did it have to be a book first?
Screenwriters Choice Awards:
Best Original Screenplay
Alfonso and Jonas Cuarón, “Gravity” (WINNER)
Woody Allen, “Blue Jasmine”
Spike Jonze, “Her”
Joel and Ethan Coen, “Inside Llewyn Davis”
Bob Nelson, “Nebraska”
Best Adapted Screenplay
John Ridley, “12 Years a Slave” (WINNER)
Ethan Hawke, Julie Delpy and Richard Linklater, “Before Midnight”
Billy Ray, “Captain Phillips”
Steve Coogan and Jeff Pope, “Philomena”
Terence Winter, “The Wolf of Wall Street”
WOLF missing here effectively finalizes the predicted winner of AD’s prediction model in Adapted Screenplay, unless WOLF can win *both* the WGA and BAFTA. That would lead to a razor-thin result indeed.
Very odd group. I definitely support Philomena’s inclusion. Really smart thoughtful script
I can’t blame them for ignoring THE WOLF OF WALL STREET. Who would want to nominate Jordan Belfort for anything good.
what an odd selection. I bet no one could have predicted those five.
If Before Midnight doesn’t get in at the oscars, heads will roll.
Yay for the criminally underrated What Maisie Knew ! Excellent adaptation, remarkable performances ! Too bad Julianne Moore didn’t get a campaign.
Happy to see The Spectacular Now, too !
