They say they don’t care about the Oscars but that didn’t stop the NY Times critics, Manohla Dargis, AO Scott and Stephen Holden from presenting their “For Your Consideration” picks. This is great because it reminds me of the old days of Oscarwatch, before the critics and the Academy were aligned. Back then, the Academy dug their heels in and flipped the critics the bird as they made their choices and the critics, in turn, flipped the bird back. There was a gap. Now the gap is yawning wider than ever before. But just because the black sheep isn’t invited to Christmas dinner that doesn’t stop them from inviting themselves.
You could probably figure out where this is going. But go have a look for yourselves. Props to Dargis for putting The Dark Knight on her otherwise obtuse list.
