Springsteen to Re-Release Darkness in Time for Documentary

Bruce Springsteen – “The Promise: The Making of ‘Darkness on the Edge of Town’” Sneak Peek from Columbia Records on Vimeo.

The Toronto Film Festival goers will get a look at the Springsteen doc in a few weeks. On November 16, Bruce and the E. Street Band will release the long-awaited boxed set from the Darkness on the Edge of Town era. Songs include, “Someday (We’ll Be Together),” “The Brokenhearted,” “Save My Love,” “Ain’t Good Enough For You,” “It’s A Shame,” and “The Little Things (My Baby Does).

Be still my beating heart. ¬†But it’s not as though this is the kind of doc the Academy goes for. It might not be “important” enough.

David Lynch – First Ever Guest Artistic Director for AFI Fest

The wonderful and wacky David Lynch will serve as the AFI’s first-ever guest artistic director it was just announced.

Lynch has also created artwork that will serve as the official image of the 24th annual festival. In addition, as Guest Artistic Director, Lynch will program a special sidebar of films that influence and inspire him and present these films at the festival in November. His film selections will be announced in October.

Most Anticipated Films of Oscar Season 2010

With the Toronto and Venice Film Festivals looming on the calendar, dozens of the year’s best films will tumble out of the pipeline over the next 4 months. We know enough about most of these to make educated guesses about their chances, and most of us have already assembled mental lists of the titles we’re most eager to see. Let’s put our collective lists together to see which Oscar hopefuls have captured our attention. You can choose up to 10 titles in the poll after the cut, and please remind me to add any significant movies I’ve left off.

[We'll include Tree of Life in spite of recent skepticism from Todd McCarty because I tend to agree with Ann Thompson who says Malick is very near to trimming to movie to its final form, and it seems unlikely that his financial backers will have the patience to leave it unseen on the shelf till next year.]
