What a great year 1978 was, when the Deer Hunter went up against Coming Home. Two movies about Vietnam from different points of view. While I think The Deer Hunter deserved to win, Craig Kennedy and Ryan Adams are on the side of Coming Home.
It was also the year Scorsese made The Last Waltz, ignored by the Oscars.

1976 is one of the more compelling Oscar years on record because Rocky, a great movie by most accounts, beat three of cinema’s best ever – All the President’s Men, Network, Taxi Driver and you might as well throw in Bound for Glory. Have a listen.

In Episode One we cover 1974, the year the Godfather Part II beat Chinatown – the same year Coppola was nominated for Best Picture (as producer and writer or co-writer) in the same year. He may be the only filmmaker in history to do that. Only one Director nod but still.
