Craig, Ryan and I spitball the Oscar race currently.
It was not an easy task wrestling 1999 to the ground. American Beauty was the big winner but the year is haunted by great works like Fight Club, Magnolia, Being John Malkovich, The Talented Mr. Ripley and many more films that have resonated long after the Oscars came to a close. Have a listen!
Craig, Ryan and I talk a bit about the current race, including any recent developments with the AFI Film Fest.
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. We discuss the year people can’t stop talking about. A split between Shakespeare in Love and Steven Spielberg might have been the best way to go.
In our two hour discussion I never got to talk about my favorite film of that year, David Lynch’s Lost Highway. Hopefully there will be time in the next one to talk about it. Either way, enjoy our spirited debate on Greg Kinnear’s character in As Good as it Gets, and Titanic.
Our podcast was so long we had to divide it into two parts.
Here’s the status report on this year’s race. 1997 will be uploaded tomorrow asap.
Tonight’s podcast is a chat about the current Best Picture race and what movie, if any, has the stuff to beat 12 Years a Slave.
