Is David Fincher’s search for the perfect embodiment of Lisbeth Salander down to the final round of contestants? Anne Thompson at IndieWire says “forget those other names” we been tossing around, because apparently the worldwide casting quest has quickly narrowed to 5 candidates. Four of those are pictured above (from left to right): Emily Browning (starring in Zack Snyder‚Äôs upcoming Sucker Punch); Sophie Lowe (from Australian chiller, Road Kill); Sarah Snook (the 3rd Australian, mostly known for her stage work); and Rooney Mara (already Fincher’s facebook friend in The Social Network). I held onto this news in hopes that the identity of the 5th mystery girl might be revealed, but it doesn’t look like that’s forthcoming. All we’re told is that she’s French. (any ideas?)
[UPDATE: Reader Clegg tips us that the fifth candidate is French actress L√©a Seydoux. Showbiz411 says Seydoux is descended from movie royalty in France, as “her grandfather was the chairman of Pathe Studios and her uncle was the head of Gaumont.” Her photo after the cut.]
I like that all these faces are relatively unfamiliar, though I like it a little less that they’re all rather interchangeably doe-eyed. The spotlight glare of the final decision will soon fix that. From the image of Lisbeth I’ve carried in my own head for the past year or so, I tend to favor Emily Browning who gives us a hint of how she might look with some of that tenderness toughened up in the teaser poster for Sucker Punch, after the cut.
