How to Get Away with Murder – He Deserved to Die

A whole heck of a lot happens in this week’s How to Get Away with Murder. Legal jargon gets thrown around like pairs of Andrew Christian underwear in Connor’s apartment and grandstanding mounts in the courtroom. There’s yelling, yelling, and more yelling, and, by the end of the episode, we are left wondering what Annalise saw in Sam Keating in the first place.

Are we supposed to be Team Rebecca now? It’s a bit hard to root for her considering that Wes lovingly wipes blood off her face on the night of Sam’s murder, and she continually thanks him for protecting her. This can’t be the “big reveal” about who killed Sam, right? Is it more complicated or is the easiest explanation usually the right one?

She is Risen?
When Annalise and her team question Rebecca surrounding the events of Lila’s murder, Rebecca doesn’t take it very seriously. Her easygoing attitude is in check when Griffin O’Reilly’s attorney requests that Lila’s body is exhumed so they can examine markings on her neck that may or may not be fingernail punctures.

Since Annalise is afraid of what other evidence will come out if Lila is exhumed, she has Team Keating (someone PLEASE give them a better name) try to stop this from happening. Laurel and Frank (Fraurel?) visit Lila’s mother in the park to convince her to beg the court to leave her daughter in the ground, and she makes an impassioned plea to the court (if they exhume the body, Griffin will more than likely go free). District Attorney Wendy Parks throws Annalise a bone and reveals that the medical examiner brought in to investigate has been found of providing incorrect testimony. Later, Annalise accuses Griffin of raping Rebecca, and the judge is over all the autopsy drama. The judge orders Lila’s body be exhumed and examined by a professional of her choice.

Post-Graduate Prenuptial Surprise!
Michaela is excited to receive a phone call from a prestigious law firm, and she assumes they are calling her to offer her a job. Well, clutch my Coach bag! When Michaela sits down and waits for an offer, the lawyer informs her that he represents her future in laws. She’s not there for a job…but to sign a prenuptial agreement. Ouch. It’s a scene that barely gets revisited, so maybe it will come back around later in the season? Maybe?

In other Team Keating news, Laurel gets an offer from a legal aid office to work for them. She doesn’t make a decision, but Frank thinks it’s because things have gotten awkward between them. What does Connor do this episode? He bangs a hot guy in the restroom, and then he regrets how he ended everything with Oliver. When he decides to take a bouquet of roses to Oliver to apologize, an equally hot (but different) guy answers Oliver’s door. He tells Connor to stay away, and I tried my damndest to get Connor Walsh to deliver those yellow roses to my door.

The beginning of the Wes/Rebecca romance is revealed. After Rebecca reveals to the press that Griffin raped her, Wes gets all mopey and gives her the silent treatment. It doesn’t last long, because the two of them starting going at it. It’s juxtaposed with the imagery of Lila’s latest autopsy, so it might go down as the first creepy sex scene in the Thank God It’s Friday lineup. Yuck!

You Want a Motive? Here’s a Motive!
Just when Annalise is comfortable around her husband…just when she (and we) think we can trust him…he messes something up. Bonnie gives Annalise the new autopsy results. The marks on Lila’s neck were indeed caused by insects that bit her in the water talk, but that’s not all. Lila was also 6 weeks pregnant.  BUM! BUM! BUUUUUUMMM!!!

Next week, we will find out who killed Sam (Oh, I’m sorry, #WhoKilledSam), but I’m worried as to where the show is going to go after that. Is it going to turn into a courtroom drama with no flashbacks anymore? Will the second half of the season majorly pale to the first? What the heck are they going to do next season? So many questions…
