TV News: Kelley Adapting King’s ‘Mr. Mercedes’, Community Gets a Date, ‘Hannibal’ Has Its Tooth Fairy, more

Mr. Mercedes. David E. Kelley (The Practice) is adapting Steven King‘s self-described hard-boiled detective novel into a limited series directed by Jack Bender (Under the Dome).  The book tells the story of a retired cop investigating a murderer who is taunting him. (Wrap)

Returning

Community. The former NBC show moves into it’s new Yahoo! home on March 17 with two episodes with a new one to be released every Tuesday afterward for the duration of Season 6. (TVLine)

Hannibal. Richard Armitage (The Hobbit) will play Francis Dolarhyde, the serial killer also known as The Tooth Fairy, in season 3 of the NBC thriller. The character was featured in Thomas HarrisRed Dragon as well as Michael Mann’s movie adaptation Manhunter. (TV Line)

Continuing

The Blacklist. The NBC thriller has lined up David Strathairn (Lincoln), Janel Moloney (West Wing) and Gloria Reuben (ER) for it’s upcoming two-parter which begins after the Super Bowl and concludes on February 5. Strathairn will recur as a man known only as The Director, head of the NCS . Moloney will play Kat Goodson, liaison to the NCS Director. Reuben will turn up in the second part as Dr. Selma Orchard, an expert at subconscious memory retrieval working for the episode’s villain played by Ron Perlman. (EW)

Arrow. Charlotte Ross (NYPD Blue) will return to the CW super hero show as Felicity’s mother, Donna Smoak, in episode 18. (TVLine)

Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Bradley Whitford (The West Wing) will appear on at least one episode of the popular FOX sitcom as Andy Samberg‘s absentee dad, Captain Jake Peralta. (EW)

Renewals/Cancellations

The Fosters. The ABC Family original drama has been renewed for a third season. (TVByTheNumbers)

Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. Crackle has renewed Jerry Seinfeld‘s web series. This seasons guests will include Jason Alexander, Aziz Ansari, Tina Fey, Amy Schumer, Howard Stern and Kevin Hart. (Wrap)

Departures

Ann Curry. The former Today show co-anchor who was unceremoniously bounced by NBC in 2012 is leaving the network. No word on where she’ll end up. (EW)
