TV News: ‘Supergirl’ found; Pharrell happy on ‘Simpsons’

Transparent. In an effort to promote its Amazon Prime subscription service, Amazon will stream the Golden Globe-winning comedy Transparent for free on Saturday, January 24. Amazon reports that its average number of viewers for the series, an early Emmy favorite, has increased 250 percent since winning Best Comedy and Best Comedy Actor for Jeffrey Tambor at the January 11 awards ceremony. So You Think You Can Dance. The Emmy-winning dance-based reality competition show So You Think You Can Dance has added two new judges in the wake of fan-favorite Mary Murphy‘s recent departure. Paula Abdul (American Idol) and Jason Derulo will join the judging table when the show premieres its 12th season in late May. (EW)

The Simpsons. Grammy-winner Pharrell and his infamous hat will be guest-starring on The Simpsons during the February 8 episode. The episode, titled “Walking Big & Tall,” involves Lisa Simpson’s attempts to create a new official song for Springfield after discovering their unique town song was a carbon copy of one sold to dozens of towns across America. Supergirl. Melissa Benoist (GleeWhiplash) has been chosen as the lead in CBS’s new Supergirl pilot from writers Greg Berlanti (Arrow, The Flash) and Ali Adler (The New Normal). The show will explore the character at age 24 as she decides to stop hiding her super powers and become a superhero. (Deadline)

Hap and Leonard. Writer-director E.L. Katz (cult-favorite Cheap Thrills) has signed on as writer/producer of the upcoming SundanceTV’s Hap and Leonard. The series is adapted from Joe Lansdale‘s Southern noir novels about best friends/martial law experts in 1980s East Texas. The series will premiere in 2016. (Deadline)
