TV News: True Blood Star Joins Hannibal, SNL Vet Coming to New Girl, more

Pilot Season! Duck Season! Pilot Season! Rabbit Season!

Unveiled. NBC has greenlit this pilot from Mark Burnett and Roma Downey (Touched by an Angel), about a group of “flawed guardian angels. (THR)

Heart Matters. NBC has also greenlit this medical drama pilot based on the life of Dr. Kathy Magliato and her book Heart Matters: A Memoir of a Female Heart Surgeon. (THR)

L.A. Crime. ABC has ordered a pilot for this “true-crime procedural set in 1980s Los Angeles.” Two detectives investigate a whole team of serial killers. (TVLine)

Quantico. Another ABC pilot. This one follows a group of FBI recruits through training at the famous FBI base in Virginia. One of them is a sleeper terrorist. (TVLine)

Runner. Cutting and pasting the description of another ABC pilot order: “The story of a woman whose perfect life is destroyed by a “simple twist of fate.” Her attempt to expose the truth will send her on a journey through the illegal gun trade between the United States and Mexico.” (TVLine)

Mix. One more ABC pilot order. This one is a one-hour comedy drama about a bunch of multi-generational, multi-cultural families revolving around a family restaurant. (TVLine)

Of Kings and Prophets. Once again cutting and pasting this ABC pilot pick up: “An epic Biblical saga of faith, ambition and betrayal, the series will be told from three perspectives — a battle-weary king, a powerful and resentful prophet and a resourceful young shepherd.” (Variety)

Endgame. NBC has ordered a pilot for this drama from the producers of The Blacklist. The story follow a former sniper turned security expert who is accused of murdering his wife. A shady group of powerful people offer him freedom in exchange for him working for them stopping crimes. Meanwhile, he investigates the dead of his wife. (THR)

Blindspot. A tattooed female amnesiac wake up nude in Times Square and the FBI believes her tattoos offer clues to a mysterious conspiracy. NBC is grasping at straws. (THR)

Returning Shows

Hannibal. Rutina Wesley (True Blood) will play Reba McClane, the blind girlfriend of serial killer Francis “The Tooth Fairy” Dolarhyde in the 3rd season of NBC’s thriller when it returns this summer. (TVLine)

Continuing Series

New Girl. Nora Dunn (Saturday Night Live) will guest star on Zooey Deschanel’s FOX sitcom as Max “Schmidt” Greenfield’s mom, described as “a straight-outta-Long-Island, controlling matriarch.”(TVLine)

Nashville. Kyle Dean Massey (The Good Wife, Broadway’s Pippin) has landed a recurring role on ABC’s country music drama as an openly gay singer-songwriter. (Deadline)

In Development

Queen of the South. The pilot for USA‘s drama starring Alice Braga (City of God, I Am Legend) has added Joaquim de Almeida (Missing, Parenthood) to the cast in a recurring role . Based on Arturo Perez Reverte‘s best-seller, (already adapted as the 2011 telanovela La Reina del Sur) the story follows a woman (Braga) on the run after her drug dealing boyfriend is murdered in Mexico.  De Almeida will play a Mexican politician who was a father figure to Braga’s late boyfriend. (Deadline)

Lonely Hearts Killers. Showtime is developing a series about Raymond Martinez Fernandez and Martha Jule Beck who are suspected of murdering up to 20 women between 1947 and 1949. (Variety)
