^^no.
^^ only as a cautionary tale.
Is this still relevant?
Kidman’s playing a villain in this? cool.
I just want to know if she’s aware of her provocatively unbuttoned blouse in the top pic… seems a bit lame.
I dunno, I think she is brilliant. She was brilliant also in Dogville and Birthday Girl. And Birth (regardless of mixed feelings about the film). And even Fur, for that matter. I dunno. Maybe she’s a bit cold and cerebral sometimes, but she’s still brilliant. She doesn’t always hit it, but when she does she floors me. And even when she comes close she’s great. Sometimes she disappoints. Oh well.
I love Baz Luhrmann too, but not sure how this is gonna be… i dunno if he TRIES to make an epic it might turn out ugh-y. an epic should just BE because it is.
Certainly flashes of Cold Mountain (which I enjoyed enough) but more so of Memoirs of a Geisha – pretty but so what. Hope its better than that though.
Kidman is a brilliant actress tho.
Right, Kelly, everyone from the AUSTRALIA film seems to be from down under, including supp. actor David “Faramir” Wenham (love him).
BtW, I’m one of those Kidman freaks who stand up for her and remind everyone not interested that (alone in the past 5 years) her performances in HOURS, DOGVILLE, BIRTH and MARGOT made a lot of cinephiles happy.
Ummm… so, I don’t know what this is all about:
“Call the film something along the lines of Once Upon a Time in Australia or whatever, but don’t just call the film Australia it’s pretentious and presumptuous and may alienate a lot of the home crowd, we know what Australia is, we don’t need a big Americanised movie to tell us.”
BUT, last time I checked, Lurhmann, Kidman, and Jackman were all from???? Oh yeah, Australia! So, let’s hope they don’t “Americanize” it too much for you, bud.
BTW, Hugh Jackman is, IMO, the sexiest man alive.
Well, you know, I do think she’s a brilliant actress, honest to blog. It’s just that I hate the botox stuff. I left it all out of this post because I didn’t want to start THAT again. I was watching To Die For earlier and I think she’s so perfectly cast in it. But she’s great in Moulin Rouge and Eyes Wide Shut…I just wish she’d stop clinging to youth and that she looked like she usta.
I agree with you Walt. Kidman is one of those actresses who just leaves me feeling blank. Rarely has she moved me in any of her films. She is why I half dread watching this film – I fear another Cold Mountain. I’ll probably watch it but I’m not expecting much.
“Kidman is a brilliant actress…” Do you have some kinda court ordered agreement with all those Kidman freaks who will bust your balls if you don’t say that on every Kidman post now?
I kid, man. I like Nicole. I’m just trying to stir up trouble.
Except now the Kinks song Australia is stuck in my head…
Meh, never been a Kidman fan. I’ve never really seen this film as having much potential and I’ve held a grudge against it ever since they gave that awful title.
