It seems somehow timely to shine a light on these Best Picture nominees. Starting tonight, TCM will air the films that are at the heart of Mark Harris’ sublime book, Pictures at a Revolution and they are The Graduate, Bonnie and Clyde, Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, In the Heat of the Night and … wait for it … they’re skipping Dr. DoLittle.¬†¬† Best of all, Mr. Harris will be chatted up by Robert Osborne.¬† I’m going to guess that the EW revote would pick either Bonnie and Clyde or The Graduate for Best Pic, skipping the eventual winner, In the Heat of the Night. However, I don’t know if that would be wise. Clearly, Bonnie and Clyde and The Graduate are more popular now and both have more than withstood the test of time — and I can’t believe I’m saying this — but In the Heat of the Night WAS the best choice for Best Picture.
